Dream of: 14 June 1994 (2) "Over The Abyss"
Carolina and I had climbed to the top of one of the highest mountains in the United States. Although the ascent hadn't been easy, we had completed the climb rather quickly. We came to a small clearing surrounded by large smooth rocks. I looked down on the ground and was surprised to see two shiny, silver keys with a tag which said "Ford" on them. I picked them up and thought how someone must have been up here and dropped them. The person must have then descended the mountain, only to realize at the bottom that the keys had been lost.
I walked by myself over to the edge to get a better view. It seemed so lifeless up here. I saw no vegetation, and wondered if there were any animals. I let out a cry like a bird, and was surprised to hear a bird call back in response. At least I now knew some birds were up here.
When Carolina and I walked on, I was surprised to encounter a road with cars on it. Obviously it was possible to drive up here. Further investigation brought us to an area where other people were gathered at a scenic overlook. I walked to the edge of the overlook and pushed on the metal fence to see if it was secure. It seemed a bit flimsy, but appeared to be adequate. Although I didn't look straight down, I knew it was a very long way to the bottom.
Once again I was surprised when right out in front of me I saw baskets, like open ski lifts, carry people over the abyss. One middle-aged lady riding in one of the baskets caught my attention. She seemed afraid, but determined to endure the ride. I thought to myself that there was no way I was going to get in one of those baskets.
