I was sitting in the back of a large room where many other people were sitting in folding chairs. A speaker was about to begin talking in the front of the room. A man who was a loan officer for a bank where I had an account walked up and sat beside me. I had been expecting him. I owed the bank about $10,000 and he wanted to discuss the repayment of the loan. The loan had been being paid automatically every month from my checking account. But now he had some papers which I had signed which would allow him to take out the entire amount owed on the loan at once and pay it off. But I told him that I didn't want to do that, that I just wanted to keep paying the loan little by little. I was thinking to myself that the bank was my only creditor and that I wanted to keep an account open with it, even though I did have enough money to pay off the account all at once.

He seemed confused by what I was saying, and he indicated that I had signed the papers for him to go ahead and take all the money. When I clarified that that wasn't really what I wanted, he seemed to think that would be all right. But he wanted to look over a statement of my financial affairs to see exactly what my situation was.
