I was in Gallia County, where I had been staying for a while. The day before I had been talking with
Cathy, who was living near a ski area in Colorado. I had told her I was going to come up on this day and visit her. I got in my car and began driving. I had to drive a long time over a gravel road. As I continued along, I began to realized I wasn't going to reach Cathy's until around nine o'clock at night. I thought that I wouldn't be able to ski late at night and that I would have to come back the next day. I began having doubts about even going. And finally I decided I wasn't going to go. I thought I would simply call Cathy and tell her I wasn't going to be able to make it.As I drove along, I came to a small country store where I remembered Cathy used to work. I recalled that she had only worked at the store for about a week and that I had never visited her while she had worked there. I thought I might stop, go in, and buy a magazine. Instead I simply drove on.
I came to Rio Grande, Ohio. As I drove through the town, I thought I might like to look up Altizer. I really didn't know anyone in the area, and if I were going to be staying in Gallia county, I would like to meet some people. I turned left on a street and passed by a large empty red-brick building. At the same time, I began thinking I might like to buy a building in Rio Grande. I might even set up an office in Rio Grande. I drove around the empty building, looking it over. Behind the building I saw a second building which used to be a store and which had a "For Sale" sign on it. It was an elaborate elegant building, painted green, and about five stories tall. It obviously had apartments in the back for students. The building had a circular tower on it, and through its windows I could see televisions in some of the rooms. I could see some female students probably in their late teens inside the building. They were dressed in some fancy pajamas and it appeared they might be getting ready to have some kind of pajama party. Even a couple of them were out on the street dressed in pajamas. Maybe I could even meet some of these young women. I thought this was a building which I might like to buy.
