Dream of: 30 March 1989 "Writing Music"

I was in a restaurant in a town in Mexico. I walked to the salad bar, picked up a piece of celery and began eating it. I walked back to my table and sat down. I was with an attractive, slender, black-haired woman (about 30 years old). I had basically spoiled this woman, and she got just about anything she wanted from me. She had become quite demanding, and now she even acted as if she didn't want to be with me. I rose, gently and kindly telling her that I was leaving and that I would meet her in about half an hour. Now she seemed to change her mind and she didn't want me to leave. I told her I was going to have to leave, and I walked out.

As I walked down some stairs on the outside heading into a large patio area, I thought about how I spoiled Carolina the same way that I was spoiling the woman. The woman would probably appreciate me more now that I had left, just like Carolina probably would appreciate me more if I wouldn't spoil her so much.

I was still eating my piece of celery. A woman from the restaurant appeared to be following; I thought she might want to charge me for an entire salad bar, even though I had only eaten one piece of celery. I thought about telling her I had only eaten the one piece of celery, but then I thought I might lie and say I had brought the celery into the restaurant with me. As I reached a turn in the stairs, when the woman wasn't looking, I threw the celery away.

As I continued down the stairs, a musical theme suddenly awakened in my mind and absorbed my attention. I realized I needed to be writing the music down. In fact, it was clear to me that part of what I need to be doing with my life was writing down music as it appeared to me like this. I thought of all that was involved in actually writing down the notes for a tune; it would be an extreme challenge.

Suddenly I looked up toward the second floor of the building and saw Tindall standing near the banister. I remembered that he used to play the drums. I wanted to say something to him, and finally I said, "I appreciate you."

What I really meant was I appreciated the fact that he could play music so well.

As I passed through some other people, I continued humming the tune over and over. I needed to sit down and try to write the tune, to put it into notes and lines as quickly as possible.
