I was thinking about how difficult it was to believe what I believed, that there was life after death. The whole concept of living beings which were conscious of the existence of the universe was itself incredible. When I stopped to think about my nature and my place in the universe, the thought almost numbed my mind, because it was so incredible. The ideas of philosophy became more than old ideas; they became living, palpable concepts.
