february 24.....

the news is this: slobberbone's new album will be out june 6 and is tentatively titled "trust jesus". for now, buy the compilation "band-kits" of denton bands on quality park records for slobberbone's previously unreleased song "scuffed". slobberbone is back in the touring ring so check em out.brent's got a whole new batch of songs that just blow my mind. this guy just gets better and better. also, they'll be playing SXSW again this year at hole in the wall on wednesday march 16.

december 9.....

it's been tradition to spend my new years eve wherever the old 97s are but since they aren't playing this year, i don't face the dilemma of what to do, what to do. i know just what i'll be doing and i'll be doing it at the barley house. i'm particularly excited about the new year's eve show which may be why slobberbone keep cropping up in my dreams of late. last week i dreamed that slobberbone was playing at brent's grandmothers funeral. i remember that i wanted to see them play but it was HIS GRANDMOTHER'S FUNERAL for christ sakes so i was basically lurking about the cemetery trying to go undetected(!!!!!). brent had the most ridiculous hair and he was wearing a funny tie. next thing i know jess is riding around on one of those banana seat kid bikes, just all over the place. in last night's dream i was at a slobberbone show and jess was playing the saxophone instead of the guitar, only he wasn't very good. he kept fucking up royally. i asked him how long he had been playing and he said a week. so he was just learning. tony made some joke as he is apt to do. brent wasn't there for most of the dream. bryan's hair was all gone, it was as short as jess'. i wanted to request a song but in the dream i couldn't remember any of the titles. also i made out with jess but i guess that's telling on myself. i feel cheated though because i can never remember the actual shows. but there's always new year's eve........

i've been particularly busy lately as, apparently, has slobberbone. it's been mentioned on the onelist that slobberbone is recording in memphis and that brent is actually still writing songs for the record which makes me more eager than ever for the finished product (as if that's possible). in the meantime, i've seen centromatic play several shows and boy did they steal my heart. saw a really low key in store performance with just scott & will that was especially fine. also, caught the ex-husbands act last week. it was a lot of silliness punctuated by great songs. i finally left at about 2:30 in the morning when the band started taking off their clothes. i've seen more of the bass players body than the guy i'm dating which is always a bad sign. next week split lip rayfield will be popping in with the meat purveyors. saw s.l.r. play with slobberbone a couple of times and they're pretty good so should be fun.

bloodshot records confirmed that a slobberbone contribution was expected for their 5th anniversary compilation due out in the spring but were uncertain as to specifics. ticekts for the ft worth show on the 28th should be on sale soon at borders. call 817-738-9500 for details. see ya there!

november 1.....

The 10/16 show at the gypsy tea room was great. it's nice that the damnations, another great band, opened instead of the expected other way around. i thought the show was short but maybe that's because i could watch them all night long or because their two set shows spoil me. here's the set list (corrections welcome):

  • gimme back my dawg (new)
  • your excuse
  • bright eyes darkened (new)
  • josephine (mulehead cover)
  • dunk you in the river
  • lazy guy (new)
  • trust jesus (new)
  • engine joe
  • i'll be damned
  • that is all (new)
  • barrel chested
  • no man among men
  • some new town (new)
  • can't stay sober/shoot you dead medley
  • encore: powderfinger (neil young cover)
  • some of the new songs titles are not confirmed. at this time the only upcoming date is new year's eve. the guys are still recording but will probably announce more local area dates soon.

    p.s.this is heresay.

    september 6................

saw slobberbone play muddy waters on Saturday. it was supposed to be barley house, but it got moved at the last minute apparently.

i was late so i don't know how the show started but i can tell you how it ended. it rocked. they played 'one rung' for about--according to them--the fifth time ever. this is my fave b.c. song so i was happy-happy. they played '16 days' and 'dark as a dungeon' which are songs that have been on the set list a lot lately. they played a lot of new songs, songs i'd never heard which for the most part were great. the crowd was plying them with drinks which may be why brent was so jolly and talkative throughout the show. if he would quit all his mumbling i could tell you what he said, but hey, he's a mumbler. someone mentioned a barley house show later this month but i couldn't confirm a date.

jess said the band is still working on demos for the new record and will hopefully begin recording in october in either memphis or athens. cross yer fingers for a february release date.

slobberbone will be contributing a track to an upcoming bloodshot compilation. either 'sober song' or 'can't stay sober' by the showoffs. i'm not sure which song was being talked about. i THINK it may be out in october....

lastly and best of all......everybody congratulate tony on his engagement which brent announced at the show.

    august/september................

ok, so i'm a liar. i lied. i told untruths. i misled you. i'm bad! it looks like slobberbone is NOT playing europe this fall. they'll be playing in the tx area and working on their new album.

if the new songs are any indication, the album will be great. some songs we hope make the album: the pinball song, gimme back my dawg, trust jesus, josephine.

'josephine' is a beautiful mulehead cover. go out and look for mulehead's album "never again". it's almost as good as the slobberbone albums....or better.....depending on when you ask me. yes, it's that good.

the tour with the old 97s (what a great tour-the 2 best bands in TX!) went swell (or at least was swell to see) and my only complaint was slobberbones short set.

    may/june............

this is the part where your mouth waters because slobberbone is on the verge of creating a new album. they've been cutting demos of late and after a brief tour with the old 97s will enter the studio to begin the new album before heading to europe in september. catch a show to hear lots of new great songs.
