If for any reason the links below don't take you there, you can try again later on. Sometimes their server is down. I check these links often so they should all be alive and kickin'.

Sanity Savers

This is only the beginning. As I find more helpful things, I will add them here. Please feel free to email me your "Sanity Savers".

hand Zone Alarm! The-e best FREE (or you can get the super fancy version at a cost) computer firewall in existence. You will like it and, believe me, you do need it.

handWanna Know how detailed internet spying can be?The Anatomy of File Download Spyware

handShields Up!You don't know what spy-ware is? PLEASE! Go here immediately! (groucho...After you've book-marked this page.(* or check my explanation at the end of all this.)

hand Ad-aware Finds & removes all ads and spyware. A must!

hand SpyBot Also removes all spyware from your computer as well as cleans out any cache history (thereby making more space on your computer!) I actually like this one better than Adaware, but check out both.

hand Pop-Up ad Stopper The best popup ad zapper I've found yet. It destroys the ads almost before you even see it coming! To stop it from popping windows you want, hold down the control key when you click a link on a page.

hand Pow! Another very good "pop-up ad" destroyer, but it's a little slow.

hand WinMx A music (mp3,etc.) file sharing tool without the popups and has zero spyware!

hand FreeAmp For trademark reasons is now called Zinf & located at zinf.org, but is the same player. An mP3 player that doesn't take up a zillion gigabytes of memory. Has lots of terrific features. (also...no spyware!)

hand House Call Free On-line virus scan!

hand Bugnosis A free, small download that tells you which web-pages have web-bugs! What's a "web-bug"? It's a mini-spy that follows your surfing habits. alien spy! I used it for a little while cause it's interesting to find out these things, but it started to "bug" me. :o) Having that screen pop up all the time. Fun to try out, though.

groucho Did you know.....

that if you hold down the "shift" (caps) key while clicking on a link that it opens a new window (if you don't like where it takes you, you can just hit the "x", but you still have the first window.)

groucho...that if you press the F11 key (at the top) that your web window gets bigger? Clicking F11 again brings it back to normal.

groucho...with Internet Explorer if you press control "n" another window will open.

groucho...if you download Mozilla's Firefox browser and use that instead of Windows internet explorer(also called IE) you'll have a lot less trouble. Mozilla has a built-in thingy that stops the blank-page from being taken over by, for example, MSN.

groucho...that if you don't have a fire-wall a hacker can hack your system? You say, "What do I care? I haven't got anything to hide." - That isn't the point, they can..for example...publish porno using your innocent little computer address. Yaddiddy, yaddiddy. Want that free firewall? (or does the image of a black limosine pulling up in front of your house thrill you?)

* What is spyware? (taken from http://www.aluriasoftware.com/spywareeliminator/index.html)

"How are they doing it?

Spyware, Keyloggers, and Adware are being secretly installed on your computer when you install some programs from the internet. It usually comes from free software. Nothing is ever truly free. Ruthless companies are greedily cashing in on invading your privacy by installing this "scumware". They are getting paid to include scumware on your computer without your knowledge or permission. Some websites can actually install software on your computer without you even knowing it. These programs record what you type, where you go, what you buy and they can even capture screenshots of your computer. They are then transmitted secretly via the internet to the perpetrators without your knowledge or permission. Frightened? You should be as this can include your usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and more things than you care to know. This has been going on for years now right under your nose, secretly. They are worse than viruses. The scariest part is, it is legal."
