The Masquerade's Gone Awry
- Meri
In the beginning, the masks are fun
It’s just a game, what’s the harm?
A little excitement, a little danger
Just seeing what you can hide, what you can show
Behind a mask.
But sooner or later, it’s not a game.
Everything goes behind the mask
To be recycled, to be recreated.
Your words in someone else’s mouth.
Not you.
Not really.
I’m hiding behind a mask.
The lie has grown too big,
Something I can’t shrug off.
I want to throw off the lie,
Really, I do.
But ah, coward me.
I’m too afraid to try.
Ah well. Ah me.
What’s a liar to do?
Once you start, where do you stop?
One lie to another to another
The bricks piling up.
Building a wall, two walls, three, four...
And trapped inside is me,
With a ladder that I’m too scared to climb.
Sometimes, the walls get too high to climb. So don't start the foundation.
