Lone Star 50-State Wooden Nickels The Lone Star 50-State Wooden Nickel series is based loosely on the 50-State Quarter program, however, the woods are being issued on an accelerated schedule of 10 woods per year as opposed to 5 quarters per year. The 50-State Wooden Nickels are the inaugural series for Lone Star Creations with the first 5 issues produced in late 1999 before going onto the 10 per year schedule in 2000. In addition to the regular single issues produced in black, a collector's set of 5 state woods is produced for each half of the year. The set for the first 5 woods for each year is produced in red while the set for the second half of the year is produced in blue. These sets are serial numbered and are sealed in plastic and include an accompanying serial numbered certificate.
