Alexander Armstrong was born about 1773 in Virginia. His parents were probably Rachel Gamble and Lancelot Armstrong. Alexander married Margaret McCollum on December 11, 1795 in Greene County, Tennessee. Alexander and Margaret's children were:
Mary who married Samuel Davis
Alexander who married Elizabeth Johns
Lanty who married Elizabeth Bright
John who married Sarah Fraker
Jane
Elizabeth who married Frederick Fraker
Susannah who married Charles Warren
Joseph
James who married Nancy Horton
Thomas who married Nancy (last name unknown)
Andrew (my great-great-grandfather)
Andrew Armstrong was born about 1817 in Tennessee. He first appears in Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee in 1844. That's when he married Elizabeth M. Martin on June 4, 1844. Elizabeth must have died because Washington County marriages yield another record of Andrew Armstrong when he married Sarah Graham on July 16, 1849. From the 1850 Census for Tennessee we learn that Andrew and Sarah had moved to Bradley County. Andrew's children by Elizabeth, David Alexander (born April 16, 1845) and Mary Jane (born 1846), were with him in Bradley County. Also in the household was a child born to Andrew and Sarah--John M. born April 1850.
Is Lancelot the father of Alexander Armstrong? Did the Armstrong family arrive in Pennsylvania from The Scottish Border before the American Revolution? We are still searching for the answers to these questions.
