Certification of Rolls
Mood:  not sure

Did everyone get their rolls certified?  That was due Friday, the 4th.  If you didn't, be sure to do so as soon as possible.

Although, it's too late to do any good for your students, the Labor Day presentation was moved to Tuesday due to all the confusion.  If you told your students that it would be Thursday, please let them know.  This was a last minute decision, so I had no time to warn you. Sorry about any inconvenience.

E-mail from Dr. Moran
Mood:  a-ok

Small laminated Emergency Cards are being counted and placed in your mail boxes for you to distribute to each of your students this next week.  Please take a moment and discuss the ECC emergency quick reference category and action with your students. Thanks.

Note from Wanda:  If students received a card in another class, they do not need to get another one.

A very bold theft occurred yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:15pm when two black males, one wearing a backpack, walked up to a male sitting behind a table at the Performance Hall foyer and took his laptop. The suspects fled via the first floor Main Street exit. The Dallas Police Department was immediately made aware of this offense.

SUSPECT ONE:  Black male, 6'0", 180 lbs, black hair, thin face brown eyes, patchy facial hair, wearing red shirt and baseball cap with backpack

SUSPECT TWO: Black male, 5'7", 210, black hair, round face black eyes, wearing a green shirt

Please advise your students to keep their property close and report all suspicious activity to campus police at 9-1-1 (from a campus telephone) or 972-860-4290 (from a cell phone). Please encourage your students to program into their cell phones the 972-860-4290 number.

Common Reading Program
Mood:  cool

Your students may be interested in participating in the Common Reading Program.  This semester's book is How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez.  Students can receive a free copy of the book if they agree to participate in activities that include discussion groups, films, speakers, and other presentations.  Some instructors offer this as an honor's project or for extra credit.

If you have students who are intereste, let me know how many and I will get the form they must complete.  When I receive these, I will arrange to get the books to you.  Let me know if you are interested...wanda

Labor Day Program
Mood:  happy

You and your students are invited to a celebration of labor.  The program will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, 12:30-1:30 p.m., in Performance Hall.

The panel discussion will include Gay Michelle, Wanda Jones, Derrick Payne, Fela Alfaro, and Larry Pool.  Jerry Jones's students will provide music.  Topics include the history of organized labor, minorities and labor, and the current state of labor issues and arguments offered by opponents of organized labor.

I have an exercise for students if you wish to offer it to your students.  See www.elcentrohistory.com/labor2.html.
