"That's the press, baby!"
-- Humphrey Bogart in "Deadline-U.S.A."

I'm slowly rebuilding and reconnecting the dead links. The student page is the latest to be updated.
There's no longer a mailing list and no plans to reinstate one.
Thanks for looking in.

W
elcome to Deadline USA, a
site designed for newspaper copy editors by a newspaper copy editor. Its main purpose is to provide a way to cut through the distractions on the World Wide Web to find and check facts quickly and reliably.

I started this site in May 1999 with delusions of grandeur. Now, I'm downsizing to something I can manage in the limited time I have to maintain this site. I have found the links to be helpful on deadline, as have some of my copy editor friends. I hope you do, too.

As of March 2000, this site's going on a diet and getting a subtle makeover. Continuity in style (read: ugliness) is on the front burner. But most of the linkage is good. Sometime soon, I hope to have a small, tidy site that's efficient, low-tech and a little fun.

I always love hear from y'all, so keep in touch.

D.C. 2000
The focus of the In-depth page today is Campaign 2000.

How's it spelled?
Is it Dunkin Donuts or Dunkin' Donuts? You'll find the answer here. The Trademark Checklist, compiled by the International Trademark Association, lists nearly 3,000 trademarks and service names with the proper/preferred spelling and punctuation. It also lists generic descriptions of companies and products. The INTA is an organization of trademark owners and advisers worldwide. It also sponsors a hot line for questions about anything not listed.

Time trials
The Today's Calendar and Clock Page offers every fact imaginable pertaining to today's date. From what day it is in the Jewish calendar to those of the Maya, Chinese, Persians and on and on. Links for holidays, phases of the moon and more.

Ancient time
The Aztec Calendar, which is updated daily, shows today's date according to the tonalpohuali, the sacred, illustrated calendar of the ancient people of Mexico. Explanatory with a few links. Fascinating.
