God's Will for Your Life

What is God's will for my life?

John 6:40

"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." (NAS)

1 Timothy 2:4

(God) desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (NAS)

What is the truth?

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." (NAS)

How do we come to the Father?

John 10:7-10

Jesus therefore said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. "All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly." (NAS)

Acts 4:12

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." (NAS)

How do I know I am a sinner?

Romans 3:10-12

As it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; all have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one." (NAS)

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (NAS)

Why can't I just make up for my sins by doing good things?

Titus 3:5-6

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; (KJV)

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (KJV)

So since I am a sinner and cannot do anything to make myself good enough, what do I do?

Acts 2:21

'And it shall be, that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' (NAS)

Romans 10:9-11

That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed." (NAS)

If you are unsure exactly how to approach God and ask His forgiveness and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, you may want to sincerely pray this prayer from your heart:

A Sample Prayer

Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness.   I know that you are the Son of God, that you were born of the virgin Mary, that you lived a sinless life, and that you died on the cross for me so that my sins could be forgiven.   I believe you rose from the dead and are sitting at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.   I now turn from my sins and ask you to forgive me.   I invite you into my heart and life and trust you as my Savior and follow you as my Lord.   I give myself entirely to you and trust that because you are merciful, I am now forgiven and am now a child of God.   Thank you for saving me.

What do I do now?

Find a local church.

It is important that you make friends with other Christians in order to surround yourself with a support system so that you may be taught what God's Word says about how you should live your life. God desires that we not be ignorant of His ways, but that we be taught the Truth He has given us in the Bible. Ask God to show you the local church He desires you become aligned with. You may want to begin listening to Christian radio stations. Make a note of those ministers who speak in such a way that you understand in your heart what the Bible is saying. Listen to see what Christian denominations are represented by these ministers and if their church is close, visit it. If it is not close, visit a nearby church of that denomination. You may need to look around awhile, but God will help you find the church where He wants you to worship. Be sure that the Bible is the primary source for their doctrine and that no other books are used which are placed on an equal plane with the Bible.

Be baptized.

As a public profession of your new faith in Christ, it is important to follow His example in baptism. This is a symbol of our dying to our old way of life and rising again to live life as a new creation in Christ. It signifies that the Old Adam in us should, by daily contrition and repentance, be drowned and die with all sins and evil lusts and, again, a new man daily come forth and arise, who shall live before God in righteousness and purity forever. The Apostle Paul writes in the sixth chapter of Romans:  We are buried with Christ by Baptism into death, that, like as He was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Portions taken from Luther's Small Catechism, Concordia Publishing House: St. Louis, Missouri, 1943; page 178.)

Read your Bible daily.

You need to refresh your heart with God's Word on a daily basis for guidance. He longs for you to get to know Him on a very personal basis as He reveals Himself through His Word. Ask Him to help you understand the Bible.

Pray.

God is interested in you and in those you love. Call out to Him about all things that concern you. He is not too busy to listen, but delights in His children's prayers.

36    Just as it is written, "For Thy sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
37    But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
38    For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

Worried?

Here is what the Bible says to you:

Psalm 94:19
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. (NAS)

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV)

Isaiah 41:10
'Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' (NAS)

Isaiah 41:13
"For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you.' (NAS)

Matthew 6:25-34
"For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing? "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? "And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life's span? "And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these. "But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith? "Do not be anxious then, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'With what shall we clothe ourselves?' "For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. "Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NAS)

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. (NAS)

Hebrew Words for Praise in the Old Testament

Throughout the Old Testament we find examples of praise and worship.  What is interesting is that in all cases, the corporate praise and worship spoken of in Bible was active, physical and vocal.   When the people came together to praise and worship God, they were not silent and passive.  Look at the meaning of some of the Old Testament (Hebrew) words for praise and worship.  All definitions are taken from Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible:  Hebrew/Greek Dictionary.

Let us not be guilty of "mouthing the words" when we come to worship God; let us not let the words of honor and praise come forth from our lips without backing up the substance of the words with true worship from our hearts:

Isaiah 29:13-14
13     Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from me, and their reverence for me consists of tradition learned by rote,
14     Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be concealed."
(NAS)

Matthew 15:8
8     This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
(KJV)

Mark 7:6
6     He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
(KJV)

Psalm 150:1-6
1    Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary:  praise him in the firmament of his power.
2    Praise him for his mighty acts:  praise him according to his excellent greatness.

What Brings Your Glory, Lord?

What Brings You Glory?

When you touch a chord in Me...
When you play a tune on My heartstrings...
When you seek Me, heart and soul...
When you seek My heart...
When you seek My will...
When you lay down your own desires...
When you arrest all thoughts not of Me...
When you hunger and thirst after righteousness...
When you partake of the feast I prepared for you...
When you master the tongue...
When you lay aside all false responsibilities...
When you forgive others...
When you reconcile with a brother...
When you gather together in love...
When you strive for holiness...
When you cleanse your heart...
When you plow up the fallow ground of your soul
so good seed can take root...
When you sing me a lovesong...
When I know your heart is toward Me and My will for you...
When I AM all you want...
When you repent...
When you come as a child to Me...
When you feed the hungry...
When you house the homeless...
When you clothe the poor...
When you sing Me songs in the night...
When you bring the tithe into My storehouse...
When you crucify SELF...
When you bless rather than curse...
When you humble yourself before Me...
When you pray in the Spirit...
When you dance with abandon before Me...
When you obey My voice...
When you answer My call...
When you weep with contrition...
When you fast...
When you flow in the gifts of My Spirit...
When you testify of what I have done in your life...
When you stand and are not moved by adversity...
When you rejoice in tribulation...
When you wait patiently for My response to your heartcry...
When you yield to My touch...
When you aim to please Me...
When you fear Me more than man...
When you love unconditionally...
When you obey My commands and believe My promises...
When you resist evil and see it flee...
When you overcome in an area of the flesh...
When you pray, believing...
When you agree with another in prayer...
When you become the servant rather than the served...
When you let go of false pride and false humility...
When you trust Me as Lord over another area of your life...
When you call out, ABBA, FATHER...
When you are still and know that I AM GOD...

Then will My Glory descend.......
