The Bay Area Writers League is an organization of writers in the Galveston Bay area near Johnson Space Center. It was founded in 1989 and currently has about 200 members.

The group meets the first Thursday of each month (if it's is a holiday, we meet the second Thursday) at Barnes and Noble on Bay Area Boulevard east of Interstate 45 (the Gulf Freeway) - Directions. Networking begins at 7 and the general meeting starts at 7:30. Most meetings feature a speaker who is a published writer, editor, teacher, or literary agent. Meetings are free and visitors are welcome.

Each year, B.A.W.L. holds a writing conference at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. A manuscript competition for novice writers is held in conjunction with the conference. The next conference will take place in May 2004. For information about the conference and contest, click here.
