~ It’s taken much too long....
“Have you ever truly took time to enjoy the sea?” Two brilliant violet orbs shined brightly from beneath the curtain of chestnut bangs.
Heero cringed. He hadn’t particularly cared for the ocean since he crashed into it’s depths upon his first visit to earth. “Hn.” the cobalt eyes left those of violet to once more stare at the report he had been writing.
“Oi.” Duo pressed his slender fingers against his forehead. “We are in a school near a beautiful bay, and you don’t even know how to enjoy it!” an over exaggerated sigh escaped the braided boys lips. “Honestly Hee-chan...” he cut off when the steely blue bore into him.
“What do you want from me Duo?” Heero quirked an eyebrow as he studied the others almost angelic face.
“I want you to come with me!” Duo beamed.
“It’s late.” Heero cast his eyes to look out the window into the black darkness.
“It’s a full moon! It’ll be perfect!” Duo remained completely determined his violet eyes sparkling in the glow of the laptop screen. “It’ll be fun! I promise... please Hee-chan!!!” Duo placed a hand on Heero shoulder and smiled even brighter.
~ To get it right... would it be so wrong....
Heero closed his eyes and shook his head. “Duo no baka... Fine.” He stood then walked to the closet to grab a denim jacket. Glancing over at Duo to see the excitement burst within the boy.
Duo watched in overflowing excitement. He bounced over to the door, his usual grin frozen in it’s usual place, but there was something different in his eyes. They were beyond excited and glittered like amethyst stones.
The corners of the perfect soldiers lips curled slowly as he looked at the braided boy wait anxiously at the door. Upon reaching the door Duo had already bounded out turning occasionally to make sure Heero was still following him. “I’m coming...” Heero smiled to himself.
“Good!” he chimed as they finally stepped outside of the dorm building. The strong wind whipped his braid about in the air, playing with it. A few strands fell loose and tickled his heart-shaped face. Duo giggled at the feeling then turned and took Heero’s hand in his gently.
Heero blinked in surprise at the gentle touch, which startled him from the daydream he was having about the perfect vision before him. //He’s so gentle... // He looked at Duo’s soft hand and felt the heat rising into his cheeks. “Hn?”
~ To maybe find someone... a miracle...
Duo winked then dragged him along behind him. The cobalt eyes locked onto the fluttering braid. It hypnotized him to where all he wanted to do was grab it then release the gorgeous hair from it’s confines. Time went by quicker as his eyes grazed over the young Shinigami. Almost too quickly. “Almost there!” Heero looked around to see a long sandy beach with a wooden pier that reached out across the water. //When did we get here? // He puzzled a moment then he felt himself being dragged along again.
“Duo-kun?” they paused in the middle of the long pier and the boy in black turned to gaze at his best friend with a questioning gaze. The wind had picked up speed tremendously the further they walked out over the water and was now doing a dance with the long hair. Heero stared into the brilliant eyes a moment then continued. “What are we going to do here?”
“Ano...” Duo paused, but continued smiling. “Hee-chan! That’s the first time you called me Duo-kun instead of baka or just plain Duo!” His face lit up like a light bulb. “Sugoi!” he giggled then pulled Heero further out until they reached the end of the wooden pier. There they descended stairs down to concrete jetties. The waves curled over the sides with soft hisses and slaps, but never touched the center of the concrete island strip. Duo released Heero’s hand then trotted out to the end and sat down on the driest spot nearest the edge. Duo cast his eyes over his shoulder and Heero saw the stars reflecting off the deep pools of amaryllis. “Come sit with me Hee-chan!”
~ And all you really need...
Heero walked slowly over to the figure drenched in the full moonlight then sat beside him. The wind blew harder and ripped at their clothing. Duo shivered slightly then moved in closer to Heero, pressing their bodies together. The perfect soldier quivered but didn’t move away. “Aa... Duo-kun?”
The longhaired boy looked at him and for the first time, he wasn’t smiling. His eyes held a look of worry and something else he’d never seen before. “What is it Hee-chan?”
~ Is everything you could never be...
//Don’t look sad Duo-kun... please... // He looked deeply into the violet eyes before continuing. “Teach me how to see it... The beauty of this place.” Heero smiled a bit, which caused Duo to smile back sweetly. //That’s much better... //
Duo pointed out over the churning water to a spot where the moon reflected fully off it’s surface. “See Hee-chan!” he beamed as Heero squinted at that spot on the horizon. He was about to say he didn’t see it when sleek, moon bathed bodies leapt from the water. “The dolphins love to play in the moonlight!” Duo looked at them intently. “They’re so beautiful!”
~ And so you give it all... for a miracle...
Heero turned to look at Duo quietly. The violet orbs were dancing with each leap of the playful creatures. “They’re porpoises, Duo-kun.” Duo looked at him and found he was staring into the deep cobalt eyes. He had intended upon complaining, but found himself speechless in Heero’s heavy gaze. “It’s ok to breathe Duo-kun...” Heero put everything into a smile like never before. His features softened beyond anything Duo had ever seen.
“Ne?” Duo breathed in deeply, finally noticing that he had been holding his breath. “Oh... gomen.” Duo blushed deeply then looked back out over the water.
“Beautiful...” Heero whispered never taking his eyes away from the other boy’s profile. //How could he call himself the god of death when he looks so angelic in the moonlight? //
Duo jumped slightly. //Me? Or the dolphins? // He smiled to himself. //He’s still looking at me. // He turned back to see Heero’s face as it glowed softly in the night. “You think so Hee-chan?” Heero nodded, but continued to stare at Duo.
~ Is there a trace... Inside his face... of a lonely miracle...
Heero looked over the elfin face drinking in every curve and line memorizing it. Duo began to shiver a bit. “You cold?” Heero’s gaze shifted to that of worry, which caused Duo to smile softly.
“A little...” Duo whispered then wondered if Heero heard him. Soon he felt a strong arm slide about his waist pulling Shinigami closer to the perfect soldier. Duo smiled then buried his head in the smooth curve of Heero’s neck.
“That better?” Heero smiled to himself as he clung to Duo as if he were the only thing in life left for him.
“Much... arigato...”
~ And so you wait... and lie awake... for a lonely miracle...
Heero buried his face in Duo’s silken hair. “So warm... Duo-kun...” there was no answer to his soft whisper so Heero realized Duo had fallen asleep. //You always could sleep through almost anything... its ok... just sleep... // He raised his eyes to the churning ocean and sighed. “You’re right Duo-kun... the ocean is beautiful... when you’re there.” He scooped up the boy in black and cradled him possessively to his chest. “Time to go home sleeping beauty.” Heero kissed Duo’s forehead lovingly then began the long walk back to the dorm rooms slowly.
