~ I know all about, 'bout your reputation, And how it’s bound to be a heartbreak situation, But I can’t help it if I'm helpless, Every time that I'm where you are

/ I could hate it all. I could hate myself. I could hate him… Even Heero. But in the end I’m only hurting myself worse than I already am. But isn’t that what human beings do? They screw themselves over and give in to the pain all in the name of their broken heart. But wasn’t there some saying that said that every cloud had its silver lining? Wouldn’t that be Quatre? Do I want to find out? Or would I rather bask in misery? So it’s all down to me. This is where I either pick up the pieces or leave them where they are. /

Empty eyes of azure stared across the long glossy wood of the meeting table of the Winner Corporation’s conference room. Pale slender fingers weaved into platinum gold hair as he droned out the sound of the man’s voice that had been going on incessantly for who knows how long. Quatre glanced out the window and began to drift away. A hand shaking his shoulder made him jump back to the presence. Once more Rashid had made him focus on the task at hand. The fifth time since the meeting had started.

Sighing Quatre attempted to listen, but once again his thoughts wandered. / I wonder how things went with Duo. He’s been gone two days. / Tears threaten to form in his eyes. Why hadn’t he come back? He dreaded that the worst had happened and the two had run away together. If that were the case, he should be happy for them… Right? “Does that sound ok to you Mr. Winner?”

“Hm? Oh… It should be fine, but let me review it one more time. Could you send a copy of your reports to my secretary and she’ll leave them on my desk?” The other man nodded and looked relieved that Quatre hadn’t said flat out no. Smiling kindly he stood up to excuse himself. “If you gentlemen and ladies will excuse me…” They all smiled and nodded as he walked out of the room.

Following closely, Rashid leaned in close and whispered. “Is something the matter Quatre-sama?”

Shaking his head slowly he tugged at the sapphire blue tie. “I’m fine Rashid. I want to go take a walk though. Alone please.” Reluctantly the older man nodded and watched him unbutton his black jacket. / Why must I always have someone with me? / Grumbling to himself he caught sight of a silhouette in the distance leaning against one of the main entranceways. Stopping dead in his tracks he tilted his head to the side curiously. He studied the figure carefully and then noticed the braid trailing behind the person’s back. “Duo…”

The other teen smiled and pushed off the wall to face Quatre smiling softly against the fading light outside of the doors. Once again, Quatre felt the urge to cry. / He came back… /

~ You walk in and my strength walks out the door, Say my name and I can’t fight anymore, Oh I know I should go, But I need your touch just too damn much

Taking a few steps toward one another, Duo and Quatre just stood there not wanting to shatter the moment. Quatre looked searchingly into the other boy’s eyes praying for some strength to keep himself together. Balling one hand into a fist he pressed it over his heart wishing he could still the raging beat of his heart.

Duo took the breaking step and Quatre dropped his eyes to the fine marble floor of his office building. The braided teen smiled softly and reached a cautious hand out to caress the petite blonde’s smooth cheek. “Quatre… my angel.”

A torrent of emotions rushed into the Arabian’s head as he raised his eyes to the shining orbs of amethyst. The smile on the elfin face he loved so dearly was as true as could be. “Duo-kun… You…”

“I came back. For you. You didn’t think I’d run out on you now did you?” The brunette winked at Quatre and cupped his hand over the other boy’s cheek. “Shinigami himself couldn’t stop me from running here to see my beautiful angel.”

A smile graced the pale rose colored lips as he fell into the sweet words that poured from those perfectly shaped lips. “Duo… What happened? How did it go?”

“In a minute Quat. Let’s go somewhere to talk, hm?” Duo grinned and took his hand gently and tugged on it softly asking silently for him to follow. It was all Quatre needed.

~ Loving you, Isn’t really something I should do, Shouldn’t wanna waste my time with you, So I’ve got to be strong, But baby you’re the right kind of wrong. Baby you’re the right kind of wrong.

Duo was the first to break just as he had been before. Taking a deep breath he took timid steps in the direction of the tall French boy sitting at the small circular glass table. Each step seemed to etch itself into his heart and make his vision grow cloudy. It hurt. Dear God it hurt. Trowa sat unmoving looking extremely nervous with each step Duo took. Taking a deep breath he smiled and spoke in a shaky voice. “Hey Tro. How’s it going?”

Trowa swallowed hard. It felt like there was a rock in his throat and he couldn’t talk or breathe for that matter. Taking a sip of his tea he too attempted to greet the other. “Hello Duo. Been a long time…” They stared at one another for a long moment before Trowa turned his gaze to the chair across from him, indicating Duo to sit. “I’ve been fine. How have you been?”

“Well…” Duo fidgeted with the end of his braid and searched for a way to say something without lying. He didn’t ever want to lie again. “I’ve been living with Quatre. Great guy. We’ve been… seeing each other. Things going well with Heero?”

Moving uncomfortably, Trowa left his gaze on the table. “We’re fine. We’ve been doing rather well.” / What the hell is he doing with Quatre? Why am I questioning this? /

A silence fell in between them and it was unsettling for both of them. “Trowa, you know that I still want to be your friend. I still care about you, and I’ll always be here for you.”

Green eyes rose to bear into him almost like fiery darts. “You don’t have to anymore.”

“I know I don’t have to!” The American’s voice hit a high pitch for a moment, then he brought himself under control. “I’m doing it cause I want to.”

“It’s great that you want to.” The quiet voice hid all emotion and Duo couldn’t tell if it were a statement of malice or of true thanks. He was contemplating whether or not he should ask when Trowa spoke again in a strange tone. “Why do you even bother talking to me? I’m dead and lifeless. I hope you had never hoped to change me, cause I’ll always be me. I'm the same, totally selfish, aloof person. I’ll always be boring and lifeless. ”

Amethyst eyes widened to a point that no one would have believed. “Tro… Trowa?” Duo sat in a daze struggling for something to say. “I don't expect anything different from you. You’re not boring. You’re not lifeless... you're special. I care about you. And I'm not about to lose you cause you think I am doing it for some false hope...”

Bitterly, Trowa glared into his teacup. “What a waste of time.”

The other boy shook his head and trembled in pain. “You’re not a waste of time. Not in the least. Maybe we weren’t meant to be, but I treasure every moment I had with you and hope we can remain friends.” Trowa looked up at him slowly and didn’t know what to say.

“You’ve never been exactly what I wanted. Never will be.” Trowa studied the braided teen quietly waiting to see his reaction.

Trembling visibly, he wrung his hands together. “Maybe not. I’m sorry I couldn’t be all of that for you. But… Trowa… I still want to be your friend.”

Silence fell upon them once again, but it was Trowa’s turn to break the silence. “I want to be your friend too.” They looked up and smiled at one another. Duo began to laugh softly with a touch of nervousness in his tone. “You know… I have missed you.”

A glittering smile washed over his face as he looked at Trowa. “I missed you too. I’ve even missed Heero.” Trowa smiled and shoved the teacup away from him.

“He misses his best friend as well. I miss seeing Quatre. It seems, whenever we hid from each other, he didn’t want anything to do with me.” Duo grinned sheepishly and looked down flushing of all color.

“Yeah, well. Quatre sort of fell for me and I didn’t really realize it till a month into my depression.” The two started to laugh softly. Slowly but surely, the tension was lifting from the atmosphere around them. “So… what’cha gonna do with yourself now?”

“I plan on making things work with Heero. I think I really do love him. Took me a while to figure it out.” Trowa was turning a faint shade of red at the moment and it made Duo snicker. “What about you?”

It was now his turn to blush. “Well, I plan on going back to Quatre, sweeping him off his feet and loving him from now till forever, unless he has some qualm against it.”

“I’m glad that we could talk.”

“Me too.” Duo smiled and Trowa smiled back. “I’m glad to have your friendship back.” The Latin boy nodded in agreement. “So… we’ll keep in touch this time?”

“I plan on it. Will you forgive Heero?” Duo nodded while smiling brightly. “I’m glad to hear that. It’s really been killing him, losing you as a friend. Same for me.”

“Ofcourse! How could you live without me?” Duo winked and for the first time, life made sense. There were still feelings between them, but this time they knew they could move on. It was all up to them. And it had to be done on their own. They could talk about it with one another, but in the end, it was a choice for the individual.

~ Might be a mistake, a mistake I'm making, But what you’re giving I am happy to be taking, 'Coz no-one’s ever made me feel the way I feel, when I'm in your arms

Quatre listened to Duo’s detailed story while sitting on the bed in the hotel room that Duo had reserved. The blonde nodded slowly and smiled at Duo. “You really said you were going to do that for me?” Duo nodded slowly and took a deep breath from the long story that he had just told. The blonde tilted his head curiously. “So… if that’s what you decided and you two solved it all… why did it take you two days to come back to me?”

The American scratched the back of his head and looked like he was putting careful thought into this explanation. “Well, even though Trowa and I solved our differences. I needed to think.” Slowly he walked over to Quatre and got on one knee in front of him and took the Arabian’s small hands into his. “Quatre, it wouldn’t have been fair if I had come back and poured out my feelings and what not, if I wasn’t totally sure that I’d finally let go.”

The blonde nodded slowly and gazed into the brilliant amaryllis orbs and felt himself melt involuntarily. “I understand Duo. Did you figure everything out? And after you explain that, tell me why you wanted a hotel room.” A perplexed look washed over Quatre’s face that made Duo’s gaze shift to one of awe and adoration.

“Ok… Quatre… after long and careful thought, I know that I’m ready. I want to move one, and I want you to be my future. When I’m with you, I feel alive. You always make me happy, and we’ve never fought, even when I screw up. I love you Quatre Raberba Winner. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Duo bit his lip and held onto the other boy’s hands tightly, scared to let go.

“Duo… Of course…” Tears began to stream down Quatre’s face as he looked into that heart shaped face that he loved so dearly. “I love you too, Duo Maxwell.” With that, Duo leaned in and gently kissed away every one of his tears. Eventually their lips met and they kissed at one another hungrily with love and passion that Quatre had never experienced from anyone.

When they finally broke for air, they were both panting for air. Duo grinned sheepishly then kissed his cheek. “Guess I should tell you why the room now.” Quatre was completely flushed and had to force himself to nod. “Well… I know how you’re servants and the Magunacs are everywhere at your estate, so I thought this was the only way I could get you alone and all to myself for one night.”

Quatre blushed even more and kissed the tip of Duo’s nose. “You’re too cute.”

“Better believe it!” Duo grinned and winked. “So, is this where we begin the ‘happily ever after’ part?”

The Arabian shook his head and just smiled lovingly. “Duo… I’ll always be happy… as long as you’re with me.”

“Then you’re going to be happy a LONG time…”

“Fine by me…”
