~ And you can’t stop the tears that ain’t coming

Sitting at the bar Duo had her arms crossed and her chin resting upon them. “Bartender… Can I have a Rum and Coke please?” The man eyed the teen in black a moment, but she didn’t really notice.

“Don’t you think it a bit dangerous to mix that with your previous Hurricane and Screwdriver?” Dull eyes of blank amethyst blinked at the man behind the counter.

“I don’t know…” Her speech seemed a bit slurred and her thinking was not clear. “I just started drinking this week.” The man’s eyes widened as he gave up and shrugged. Mumbling something about people having to learn the hard way, he laid the glass in front of her. Duo sighed and wrapped trembling fingers about the cool glass. Rum was pretty hideous on the way down, but it was an excellent distraction to the pain in her heart. Her once perfect braid seemed frayed with pieces of feathery hair straying from their confines. The black priest outfit was wrinkled and half way unbuttoned. Truly, Duo had become a picture of beauty left to go to waste. As she rose and took a large gulp, her face contorted from the bitter taste. “Mm… that’s wicked.” A smug smile spread over her pale face. She was paler than usual and had lost some weight in the past two weeks. Drowsily she buried her face in her thin arms and groaned. It really didn’t matter to her how long she’d been there. Nor did she notice her best friend saunter in and look her over in disgust. Not that it would have mattered. Nothing did really. In her opinion, life sucked in the worst way. Every night she asked God why he didn’t just let her die in the battle.

Heero sighed angrily. Not really because of Duo’s behavior. But because of the cause of her behavior. Trowa was a good friend. But Duo was his best friend. Sitting beside her his prussian eyes drifted to the half empty glass of brown liquor. The boy winced and shoved it away glaring at the bartender. The man steeped away and sighed. “I told the guy to lay off. He didn’t seem to care.” Nodding slowly, Heero noticed that the braided girl reeked of alcohol.

Biting his lip he grimaced. “I can’t take seeing you like this. It’s utterly ridiculous.” The monotone voice somehow seeped into her clouded consciousness and she raised her head groggily. A crooked grin formed but didn’t last as she finally passed out, her head hitting the counter with a dull thud. Before she could fall, Heero gathered her up off the stool and carried her out of the little bar. He had paid her tab though rather dismally after seeing just how much she’d drank. “Duo, you have way too expensive taste.” The girl moaned in agony as he sat her on a bench outside.

Swaying slightly, she fumbled through her pockets and dragged out her sunglasses. Putting them on she turned to look at Heero. The boy shook his head and sighed once more. Then she turned and threw up. Heero found it grotesque, but what made him wince the most was the fact that she hadn’t eaten. “Duo… are you trying to kill yourself? You can’t drink this much with out eating. It’s dangerous.”

Duo trembled from the after shocks and didn’t bother looking at the boy near her. “Doesn’t matter. My life sucks. I deserve to die.” The dry tone made Heero reach out and grip her shoulders.

Desperately he shook her. “Don’t say that! It’s not true!” By that time, people were staring. Duo automatically glared at them and they looked away. Heero released the breath he was holding and then released her shoulders. “Let’s get you home and clean you up.”

Duo shrugged nonchalantly and rose clumsily to her feet. Swaggering slightly she began to walk to her car. Heero stopped her. “Why not?! I’m per…fectly… fine…”

Shaking his head, Heero picker her up and carried her to his car. “And after I sober you up… I’m going to solve this matter once and for all.”

Curious eyes of blue violet stared at her best friend. “What the hell is that suppose to mean Hee-kun?”

A slight smile graced his lips as he sat her in the passenger side seat of his car. “You’ll find out eventually.” Closing the door he took a deep breath before getting in to the car again. [It had better work to… I can’t stand seeing her like this…]

~*~

Blazing eyes of cobalt glared steadily at the trailer door. Heero was making a habit of sighing and looked about the trailer. He’d some how got into Trowa’s trailer and was now waiting impatiently for the uni bang ex-pilot to return. It had taken him forever to hold Duo still and wash her hair. After that trying experience he had to attempt and dry it then re-braid it. The troublesome baka had seriously made life miserable for two whole hours. At least in the end, Heero had accomplished in cleaning her up. Momentarily he closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. He truly wasn’t used to playing a motherly type. A yawn escaped him as the doorknob began to turn. The once tired eyes became vibrant and full of life and anger as he remembered just why he was there. Trowa silently walked through the door.

Emerald eyes instantly locked on the perfect soldier and arched a questioning eyebrow. Heero stood and nodded in a brief greeting. “Trowa… I need to speak to you a moment.”

Trowa nodded and slowly began to change out of his costume. “I’m listening.” To a point, he knew what Heero wanted to talk about. Honestly, he’d been miserable since the day he walked out on Duo. All he could see when he closed his eyes was the lithe body curled into a ball doing all she could not to cry.

“You’re a good friend Trowa. But I have to tell you that you are being a total jerk about Duo.” Heero stared coldly at the taller boy. “Personally, I don’t think you even deserve her. I don’t even think you really loved her much, because real love wouldn’t all of a sudden stop just because the person isn’t the right gender.” Trowa blinked in slight amazement as Heero pressed on. “You may say I know nothing. After all… I was trained to be a cold-blooded killer. But Trowa, being room mates with Duo… The most alive person I would ever hope to meet… I learned that there is more to life and love than what meets the eyes.” Heero took a deep breath. “I won’t tell you what you’ve done to her. I won’t hurt her pride like that… but I will tell you this. Get your priorities straight or I’ll make sure she gets over you some how some way.”

Blinking, Trowa couldn’t believe what he just heard. Heero felt more than friendship for the braided ex-pilot and was making that crystal clear to Trowa right now. But he couldn’t help but wonder why. Why was Heero trying to get them back together if he wanted to be with her? “Heero… why?”

The other boy dropped his head and stared at the floor. “Because she wants you damn it! All she has ever wanted… all she’s ever loved… is you. I can’t take that from her. And I want her happy.” Angry sapphire rose to burn into emerald. “Do something Trowa… I can’t take seeing her like this anymore.” With that he walked toward the door and opened it. He looked at Trowa one more time and shook his head before disappearing.

For a long time, Trowa stared at the closed door. [Does she really love me that much? Was I incorrect to think that she deserved it?] He dropped his head in the same fashion Heero had and bit his lower lip. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t miss her. On the contrary, she was all he could think about. Heero was right; if you love someone… you don’t just love their physicality. Trowa loved Duo through and through. The only thing that kept him from her was his hurt, and his pride. He could easily fight off the pride. It was the fact that she hurt him deeply.

Looking up finally he smiled as his mind reverted back to all the times they’d spent together. With her he felt alive. Heero was right again; she brought everything including herself to life. She gave the world meaning. She made his pain so much easier to deal with. Now it was a time of truth. Did he bite back the things that kept him from her, or give up and lose a life of happiness? [Quite being an idiot Trowa…] After finishing his changing, he walked out the door and smiled softly. [I’m coming Duo…]

~ Or the moment of truth in your lies

Moaning softly, Duo stared at the ceiling. Hangovers were the only thing that she hated about drinking her sorrows away. Covering her eyes with a hand she was glad that Heero had helped her clean up. If she had still reeked of the horrid liquor she was sure she’d still be throwing up. In a way she was angry too. She wanted to die. And in her opinion, she deserved a painful death. And this was pretty painful. Sighing softly she whispered into the silent room. “I’m sorry father Maxwell… I seemed to have screwed everything up. It seems I lose all the people I love, some how. Whether in death, or just walking away.”

Whimpering softly she hadn’t heard the door open slowly leading into her bedroom. Trowa slipped in and stared at the crumpled heap on the bed. The girl was in a pair of black jeans that at one time had fit tightly to her body, but now hung loosely about her. The white tank top also bore a baggy look that was unusual. Biting his lower lip he knew it was because she lost a significant amount of weight. Her once tanned healthy skin looked white and pale from malnutrition. Shaking his head he listened to her tiny whispers and then walked closer. “Duo…?”

The slight figure winced at the louder voice due to the headache then went completely still. The hand moved away from her eyes slowly and she opened one amaryllis eye to look at the person in her room. “Oh God… now I’m hallucinating…” The eyes snapped shut and she groaned recovering her eyes.

In spite of himself, Trowa laughed softly. “Duo… have you been drinking?”

Shrugging she decided to humor her hallucination. “No shit Sherlock.”

Trowa sighed and sat on the bed beside her pulling the hand away from her eyes. “Look at me Duo…” The eyes fluttered open as it finally sank in that he was really there. She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out and he was glad of that. “Listen to me…” He took a deep breath and felt lost in the bright violet eyes. “I’m sorry for what I did. I was wrong… And someone pointed out to me, that real love wouldn’t walk away no matter what.” The blue highlighted amethyst orbs widened in utter shock. “Now I ask you… will you forgive me? Will you take me back?”

The girl gaped at him a little longer then slowly collected herself. “Trowa… I…” Duo swallowed hard and watched the worry crease his smooth countenance. Slowly she let the smile curve her lips and she beamed. “Of course! How could I not?” Wincing at the loudness of her own voice she toned it down. “I love you Trowa! I’d be insane to turn you away!” Trowa smiled and gently gathered her up in his arms.

“Now that you have told me all your secrets… I think it only fair to tell you mine. Sort of… a warning… and a chance to back out of this if you want.” Before she could protest he shook his head. Silencing herself she merely nodded. “Duo… all the times I collapsed… there’s a reason. The doctor lied to you, because I asked him to.”

Duo blinked in bewilderment. “Trowa…” She couldn’t believe it, but she didn’t let it hurt her. After all, she’d hidden an important fact from him as well.

“Duo… I have a cancerous tumor in my brain.” Downcast eyes hid whatever pain there was hidden in them. Suddenly it all seemed to make sense to her.

“Trowa… tell me… how long has it been hurting you?”

Trowa thought deeply for a moment then looked at her. “Since I was thirteen I believe…” Duo winced inwardly and looked at the ceiling in utter contempt. [You did this on purpose… why couldn’t you punish me and not him?] Suddenly her thoughts were cut short. “Duo… I don’t know how long I’ll live. And I think it’s your right to decide whether or not you want to stay with me.”

[What the hell is he thinking? There’s no way I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of his life with him!] Slowly she wrapped her arms about him and whispered in his ear. “Trowa… God himself couldn’t keep me from wanting to be with you. I’ll be with you forever.”

A smile spread widely over Trowa’s face. Never had he felt so happy. He wished though that he had had the same understanding that Duo was offering him right now when she told him the truth. But one thing he learned from Duo was that you couldn’t live in the past. It was time to move on. This time he was going to do it right and he was going to give her all he had.

/ So this is how I got the boy of my dreams. Pretty sappy huh? I don’t know… as difficult as it was, I’m just glad I can call him mine. Sadly, I found out my second punishment. The punishment for ending the lives of people before their time. I finally learned how to deal with the girl thing. Gees… that monthly thing is pretty damned annoying. But this… this tops it all.

I never thought about the possibility that Trowa would still get the effects of touching me that day. I thought that would be erased if I were born a mortal. Why would they do such a thing? He did nothing wrong. This is all my fault. I should never have gone to him. I was so selfish.

Alright… I know… I have to be strong. I mean… he needs me now more than ever. And for once, I can touch him. I can love him freely. And I can be myself. My true self. There’s nothing more I could ask for. He loves me. We’re together. Truly together. It makes me so happy just thinking about it. I don’t want to think of tomorrow. Just of the here and now. In all truth… I need him just as much as he needs me. What happens when he’s gone? I don’t know. Leave tomorrow’s worries till it comes. I can’t live in the what ifs. Hey… Heero said that to me… He’s been such a help. I wonder why he’s so kind to me. Oh well. It’s great just knowing I have a best friend.

Ok, I’m ready to live. So… one more will die that I love. But whom am I kidding? Everyone will die eventually… I am trying to be positive. It may hurt, but I know it makes him happy. He agreed to get as much medical attention as necessary. But I know it is only preventing the inevitable. Only thing left that I could wish for… is for our names to be one and the same. I love him so dearly. He truly is my everything. He will always be my forever. Cause hey… I gave up forever just to be with him. /

Duo smiled as she typed away at the keyboard of her laptop. Work was dull, but she had fun playing and goofing off as usual. Not too long after she’d gotten back together with Trowa had she finally told Hilde the truth. At first they had to wait for Hilde to come to before getting a straight reaction. Then after it finally sunk in on the poor girl, they became really good friends. Slowly but surely, Hilde began teaching Duo how to be a girl. Of course, she hadn’t lost any of her charm as a tough streetwise boy. So maybe she wasn’t a boy, but she wasn’t about to act like a sissy.

Trowa looked over his love’s shoulder and onto the screen. Finally he realized what she was doing. She was typing an email to Hilde. Before she could close the screen Trowa read a puzzling line. “Hey Hild? Do you think he’ll ask me to? I mean… It might make him uncomfortable… after all… all my friends think I’m a guy…” Turning about she smiled shyly at him. “Trowa! When did you get here?”

A soft smile swept over his face. “Finish your email beautiful. Then get ready to go out to dinner.” Duo smiled back and nodded.

As she turned about she paused and gazed over her shoulder grinning. “No peaking k?” Trowa laughed softly and walked into the kitchen. Duo watched him smiling dreamily. He was utter perfection to her. Opening the laptop she typed in a quick ending then clicked send. Closing it once more she ran into her room and ripped through her closet. Hilde had convinced her to buy a few skirts and nice shirts. Shifting through her closet she smiled. [I’ll surprise him. I mean hey… it’s been a month since we got together again. He needs something different!]

Moments later she emerged from her room and walked into the kitchen. Trowa sat at the table reading a book silently. He was looking rather dressy in a black suit, white oxford and hunter green tie. Taking a deep breath she stepped forward onto the tile floor and a soft click from her heel caused him to look up. Instantly eyes of jade widened in utter surprise. “I’m ready Trowa…”

Brilliant green eyes ran over her. Before him stood the one he loved, dressed in a pleated black skirt that hung just above her knees and a deep royal purple turtleneck, which was sleeveless, and form fitting. A pair of black boots adorned her feet that were high heels and looked rather nice. The other thing that caught his eye was the fact that her hair was completely down. Pure silken falls of chestnut pooled about her lower thighs that made his heart skip a beat.

Standing slowly he nearly stumbled over his chair attempting to get to her. “You look… gorgeous…” Trembling he reached out a slender hand to her and she placed her’s in his. They slowly walked out of the house and to his car. Silently she laughed to herself at how he couldn’t take his eyes off of her even when he closed the door and headed for his side of the car.

The car ride was short and she couldn’t help but stare at him. He looked so handsome. There was no way she could love someone more than she loved him. Lost in her thoughts, she hadn’t realized they had arrived at the restaurant till he moved to get out of the car. Walking to her side of the car he opened the door and offered a hand. She took it and smiled as she rose from the car. [Ok… maybe it’s not so bad being a girl. I could get to like this.]

Walking into the restaurant many heads turned to look at her. Shyly she moved closer to him and tried to hide from the looks. Especially those from guys. One in particular smirked and looked her over like an object to be bought. “Hello there beautiful.” Duo cringed but soon realized that Trowa had wrapped his arms about her possessively and was giving the man a death glare worthy of Heero Yuy.

The man looked at Trowa then soon walked away looking rather afraid. Duo smiled and looked up into his warm green eyes. Leaning down he kissed her forehead and whispered to her. “I love you, Duo-chan…”

A waiter walked up to them and beckoned for them to follow. Duo smiled and whispered in his ear before squirming from his grasp to follow the waiter. “I love you more Trowa-saia.” Trowa smiled and followed after her not being able to keep his eyes off of the rippling brown locks or the gently swaying hips. Trowa pulled out a chair and indicated her to sit. Duo sat and smiled at him as he sat across from her. He tugged nervously at his tie and dropped his eyes to the tabletop.

Grinning Duo whistled lowly at him and he looked up. “What’s wrong handsome? Something on your mind?”

Silently he reached into his pocket and bit his lip. “Duo… I was planning on waiting… but I can’t… or all my courage will be gone… and I want to do this right.” Duo blinked and watched him quietly. “I want to treat you with love, honor and respect. And so…” Taking a deep breath he stood up and got on one knees beside her chair. “I have to know… Duo Maxwell… will you be my wife? I don’t know how long I can be with you… but I want to spend my every last moment with you.”

The tears filled her eyes unbidden as he pulled out the white gold ring with the tiny diamond. “Trowa… oh God… of course! I will marry you!” He gently slipped the ring on her finger and then kissed her hand tenderly. Sliding off the chair she threw her arms about his neck and allowed the tears to fall. “Oh Trowa… I love you! Oh how I love you!”

Trowa smiled and held her close to him. Whispering lightly in her ear he didn’t care that people were staring. “You have no idea how much I love you. I love you so much Duo… Thank you…”

~ When everything feels like the movies

Duo stood at the large wooden door to the Winner mansion shifting from foot to foot nervously. Once again she was back in her black leather jacket and tight black jeans. Tugging at the collar of the red turtleneck, she finally unzipped it a bit to ease the tension she was feeling. Finally she took a deep breath and reached out to press the doorbell. Oddly she had to stand there for quite a while. Impatience won over and she began pressing the button repeatedly over and over again.

After a while of constant pressing of the bell, the door flew open to reveal a distraught Quatre. The sun caused him to squint his eyes, but played upon the almost white platinum hair making it look like sparkling white gold. Duo smiled and twirled her ring about her finger. His hair reminded her of the precious token of her love’s affection that adorned her left ring finger. Quatre blinked and then smiled lopsidedly. “Hey there Duo! Sorry I’m such a mess.” Self-consciously the Arabian began straightening his deep red oxford and khaki slacks. Duo laughed softly and he eventually laughed with her. “Sorry for taking so long to answer the door as well. I gave everyone the day off today and I had fallen asleep in the study.” He blushed a light pink and stood aside inviting her in.

Duo walked in slowly and began immediately fidgeting with the end of her braid. “Hey there Q-chan! It’s not a problem at all. I just thought I’d pay you a visit!”

The fair Arabian smiled in thanks. “I’m so glad you did! I truly enjoy you guys! So, just dropping in or are you here for a reason other than to see me?”

Moving uncomfortably, she remembered why she had come. The deal was, Trowa would tell Wufei for fear of Duo being hurt during Wufei’s little justice rant. That left her to tell Quatre. Quatre she knew would be understanding, but it would still be hard. “Quatre, I came to tell you something. It’s really important and I wanted to do this in person, not over the phone.”

The tiny blonde looked at her in slight worry. “Oh I see. Let’s go somewhere and talk where it’s comfortable.” Quatre led her to a glassed in patio and indicated for her to sit. After a while he returned with a tray of tea and cookies. Setting it on a small table he busied himself pouring the tea. “So, what was it you needed to tell me?”

Swallowing hard she nodded. “I need to tell you a few things really.” Quatre nodded and handed her a cup of tea. The fine porcelain clattered softly in her hands due to her trembling so she sat it down for the time being. “First… I need to tell you the truth about me.”

Quatre arched a golden eyebrow and smiled softly attempting to get his friend to continue. “Alright, sounds good to me.” Duo smiled softly in return and took a deep breath.

“Well you see Quat… I’m well… a girl.” There was a soft clank of the teacup hitting the saucer, but when Duo looked at him she saw that Quatre looked rather calm. Before the blonde could say anything she continued. “As of right now, Heero, Trowa, and you know this. Wufei will know pretty soon. Trowa is telling him for me. I figure there’s no use hiding truth now that war is no longer a part of life.”

Gentle giggling urged her to look at him curiously. “The thought of Wufei’s reaction is quite funny. It’s a good thing Trowa is telling, I’m afraid of what would have happened to you if you did it.” Duo began to laugh as well and slowly began to feel better.

“One more thing Quatre…” The other nodded smiling elegantly as usual. “Trowa and I are getting married.” This resulted in Quatre spitting tea out of his mouth and gagging.

“Do what?!” Duo blinked at her wide-eyed friend and turned red. “You two didn’t even tell me you were an item! Now you’re getting married?” The smile returned to Duo’s elfin face but in an apologetic manner while nodding. Sighing softly, Quatre smiled back and displayed his forgiveness in the sparkling aqua eyes. “I see. I’m happy for you two. I hope I’m invited to the wedding.”

“Of course you are Q-chan!” The blonde smiled brightly. “But Quat… I want to tell you something that I just need to get out…”

“Sure, what’s up Duo-chan?”

“Trowa is dying.” This time the cup shattered on the tile floor. Sadly Duo watched the pieces scatter and slip over the floor. It made her think of how her heart would react to losing her love. Azure eyes full of concerned questions stared at her at a loss for words. “Nothing can be done. He has a tumor in his brain…”

Slowly Quatre nodded and sighed in agony. “I see… I’ll do all I can to help.” The teen smiled in an attempt to brighten both their moods. “And I insist you have your wedding on my estate.” Both smiled at one another and Duo beamed.

“Thought you’d never ask Q-chan!” The two giggled then lapsed into total silence.

~*~

Duo stared blankly at the mirror before her and smiled. “Hild… I can’t get used to seeing me in a dress.” The white satin dress swayed slightly with her movements. Running slender fingers over the full skirt she sighed softly in content.

The other girl shook her head and grinned. “You look great Duo. Stop fidgeting.” Duo nodded slowly but got whapped softly. “Stop moving your head! I’ve got a LOT of hair to work with here and your not making it any easier on me.” A soft knock at the door caused the two girls to look in the sounds direction. “Who is it?”

“It’s Trowa.” Duo beamed and nearly bounded to the door only to be halted by an angry Hilde.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Hilde glared at the longhaired baka and then turned to the door. “Trowa Barton, it’s against tradition to see the bride before the ceremony! Get!”

A soft chuckle was heard from behind the door. “Alright, alright. As long as I know my baka hasn’t run away.” Duo giggled and began to glow. “Be well my love… See you soon.”

After about thirty minutes, Hilde had Duo’s hair done beautifully, crowning her head with braided chestnut and the rest trailing down while four locks of hair were braided and blended into the soft fall of hair. Hilde stood back and marveled at her work before cramming a silver tiara on the brunette’s head. “There! You look gorgeous!”

Blushing brightly, Duo stared in the mirror. She’d been talked into a dress and such, but refused to wear makeup of any sort. Nodding slightly she watched Hilde straighten herself up. Hilde was her maid of honor and Katherine her other brides maid. Trowa chose Quatre to be his best man, and Heero as his groom’s man. It solved all the problems of getting people into the wedding that were close friends. “It’s almost time.” The music could be heard outside cuing all to get ready.

Wufei was the usher and was cursing under his breath the whole time. Heero was also to be the one to give the bride away. It had taken Duo forever to convince him to do so. A knock at the door brought Duo out from her revelry. Heero peered in and smiled slightly. “Ladies, it’s time.” All beamed and headed for the door. Heero took Duo’s hand and smiled the smile he saved only for her. From the shadows, Duo watched Wufei reluctantly escort Katherine down the isle, and then Quatre escorted Hilde. In total awe she stood at the entrance and looked upon Trowa in his black and white tux looking at her and only her. Heero gripped her arms gently and the wedding march began. The wedding was small, but was perfect for the couple.

Up on reaching the altar, Heero stood between them and waited for the priest to address him. The man smiled and then asked who was going to give away the bride. “I do…” Heero leaned closer to Trowa and whispered. “And if you hurt her, I’ll take her back.” He smiled and took his place beside Quatre.

Trowa smiled at Heero then clasped Duo’s hands in his. Their eyes met and it seemed as if time stood still. Through most of the wedding, they merely just stared at one another, totally oblivious to anything about them. It was the priest that snapped them out of it. “Do you, Trowa Barton, take this woman, to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love and to hold, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?”

The French boy smiled and nodded, his emerald eyes sparkling as he stared at Duo. “I do…”

Duo shivered at the soft words and then smiled. “Do you, Duo Maxwell, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love and to hold, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live?”

Duo grinned, and whispered. “Hell yeah…”

The priest looked at her a moment and whispered back. “What was that?”

Blinking in surprise, she blushed bright red as Trowa chuckled softly. “I do…”

The exchanging of the rings brought tears to most people’s eyes. Duo looked upon the brilliant wedding band with the spray of emeralds wisped about from the tiny diamond of the engagement ring. “I now present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Trowa Barton.” The small gathering of people clapped and the couple just smiled at one another.

Slowly Trowa leaned toward her and pressed his lips to her’s bringing about another explosion of applauds. If you listened carefully, you could hear one angry voice above the others that belonged to a certain Chinese boy. “I can’t believe that Maxwell is an onna! Injustice!”

Trowa and Duo chuckled as they turned to face the people smiling upon them. Turning to her Trowa swept Duo into his arms and carried her back down the isle. For Duo, sheer bliss was shattered when she saw the pain wash over his youthful face. Even though no one saw it, Duo did, but the pleading look on his face kept her from saying anything.

The couple walked into the hotel room feeling rather exhausted. Duo breathed in deeply before collapsing on the bed. People had laughed when she changed into her traditional black and red outfit. Heero had smirked and told her that she would always be Duo whether she was in a dress or in her favorite black leather jacket. Not only had she changed, but she also had taken her hair down and re-braided it. All the while, Trowa waited patiently in his tux. Relena had snickered and said that Trowa would need to be patient being married to Duo. That earned a death glare from both Trowa and Heero. Even Wufei looked a little pissed at her.

Trowa looked at his wife sprawled out on the bed and sighed leaning against one of the four posters on the bed. Duo finally stirred and looked up at him blushing. “Sorry love, I’m just tired.”

There was a slight shrug as he continued to stare at her with hungry jade eyes. This was their first night together. He’d purposely kept this sacred for her, no matter how much she whimpered times before. This would be special. “Fine… you rest. I’m going to take a shower.” Duo blinked but didn’t move. She truly was too tired to protest. Plus, the more time she rested, the more likely she’d have energy when he came back. She refused to wait any longer to have him in every single way.

Closing her eyes she listened to the water running in the bathroom. She wondered if he was just going to make her sleep instead of doing things much more enjoyable. Oh, but she did love to sleep. That’s why she slept at least till eleven daily. Yawning she began to doze off, losing track of time.

After a while, Trowa walked back in, only a towel wrapped about his waist. The normally buoyant bangs were plastered to his face, but still only covered one eye. Smiling, he pushed the reluctant hair behind one ear and approached her. Leaning down, he kissed her forehead causing her to stir and finally wake up. Blinking to get the sleep out of her eyes she noticed something different. She could see both beautiful eyes of sparkling green.

A hand reached out and slid over his damp cheek and a sultry smile spread over her heart shaped face. Trowa slowly moved a hand with feather lightness down her neck and over her chest, gently gripping the zipper of her jacket and pulling it downward. Wide amethyst watched him intently, stunned into perfect stillness. Trowa hadn’t seen her body since the day he nursed her burns. She began trembling as he slid his arms about her waist and sat her up.

Tilting his head curiously she shook her head. “I’m ok… just a little nervous.” Within his eyes she saw understanding and knew he felt the same. He slipped his hands under the jacket and carefully shoved it off her shoulders. It fell heavily to the bed and she pushed it onto the floor. Gentle hands gripped her waist and pulled her to her feet.

Inhaling sharply, she controlled the feelings he was sending through her with every soft touch. Slowly he tugged her shirt upward and she raised her arms so he could peel it away. One of his fingers traveled over a strap of her bra, then pushed both straps off of her shoulders and unbuckled it letting it fall to the floor. Duo closed her eyes and stood completely still as he pulled off her remaining clothes. When he was done, she opened her eyes and looked at him silently.

Her gentle hands reached out and grasped the towel and softly tugged on it. It fell away and left them to stand there just looking at one another. Trowa smiled softly and pulled her body closed to his kissing her lips deeply and hungrily. Reaching about her, he removed the tie on her hair and shook the locks loose to fall like cascading water over her back and shoulders. With a gentle push, Duo fell onto the bed with Trowa following closely still kissing her deeply. Slender elegant hands ran over her chest and teased her breasts causing the nipples to harden under his nimble touch.

She moaned into his mouth and it triggered a rush within him causing him to suddenly grind his hips into her body. The kiss broke as both began to whimper softly and shiver. Slowly their eyes opened again and they stared at one another. Mouthing words to her, Trowa kept his hand moving, and soon found their way below her waist. “I love you…” Running elegant fingertips up her inner thigh, Duo quivered. Leaning down he took her lips in his again as he entered a finger into her causing her back to arch against the intruding digit.

Tickling her on the inside she squirmed slightly trying to feel his every touch. Breaking the kiss, Trowa smiled and placed his knees between her legs and then spread them wide. Removing his hand, he listened to her whimper in protest. Shaking his head, he began a soft sensual trail of kisses down her neck and onto her chest. Taking one nipple in his lips he teased it with his tongue hardening it further while still moving his fingers about her inner thighs and over the crevice that hid the warmth he longed to enter.

Duo moaned and whimpered under his ministrations begging for more. “Trowa… Please Trowa… I love you… Please take me!” Trowa could no longer take the sensuous sounds that were coming from his beautiful wife and stopped to position his very hard member at her opening. The girl writhed beneath him making him want her even more the longer he looked over her lithe body.

“I love you too…” Gripping her hips gently he pressed his lips firmly to her’s in a loving kiss as he slowly pressed into her. Duo whimpered into his mouth in a mixture of pain and pleasure causing him to pause and allow her to get used to the intrusion. When she stopped moving he pressed all the way in causing her to jump out of the kiss and moan.

Biting his lower lip, he stifled the moan that wanted to escape his own lips. Both shivered and sat there a long moment, enjoying the feel of becoming one. Slowly, Trowa removed himself and paused causing her to arch her back toward him, wanting him to come back. Harder, he thrust back into her and shuddered. The two took deep breaths and stared into each other’s eyes. There was such love and warmth in their eyes that both wanted to cry, but that wouldn’t happen.

Soon they could bear it no longer and he was pumping into her with a steady rhythm bringing about moans and whimpers on behalf of both of them. Their bodies perspired and grew hotter with each motion and brought them closer to the edge. Crying out, Duo reached her climax and triggered her muscles that grabbed at his erection and dragged him farther and farther into her.

Trowa nearly screamed as he called her name. Releasing into her, his member throbbed and jumped spilling his white-hot essence into her. Collapsing on top of her, they embraced one another lovingly. “Duo… I love you so much…”

The girl purred and closed her eyes enjoying the feel of their bodies pressed together. “I love you too Trowa… More than words…” Slowly, sleep tugged at them and the two fell asleep in each other’s arms.

~ Yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive

It had been three years since they’d been married. Such bitter sweetness. A year ago Trowa had to quite the circus. The attacks were becoming more and more common and his job was too dangerous to have a black out during one of his death defying performances. Duo also resigned from the Preventors, only keeping her partnership in the salvage company since she could stay at home with Trowa. He’d been rather defiant over her babying and had insisted countless times that he was fine. Most of the time Duo would just smile and kiss his cheek in response.

Sitting at her vid phone she looked at Quatre silently. He’d called to see how things were and she didn’t know what to say. “You alright Duo? You look pale…”

Attempting to smile, she shook her head. “Quatre… The doctor’s saying that the tumor is growing faster and will soon kill him.” Sadness clouded her violet blue eyes. “His days are few… and he keeps telling me that he’s perfectly fine.”

The blonde slowly lowered his head and rubbed his eyes persistently. “Stubborn to the last I see… It’s so horrible… Just waiting for the point where we have to say goodbye.”

Tears crept into her eyes as she nodded slowly. Jumping as she felt a hand grasp her shoulder, she saw Trowa standing beside her. “Quatre… stop making this harder on her.” The blonde Arabian raised his eyes to look at Trowa and instantly looked apologetic. “She’ll call you later.” Without another word he silently shut the phone off. Panting softly he turned to face her with pained emerald. His normally perfectly shaped bangs were frazzled and out of uniform. Duo reached up to cup his chin gently with her warm hand as he dropped into her lap. “Duo… I’m sorry… This is unfair to you.”

Duo softly pressed a finger to his lips and smiled as best she could. “Trowa… it doesn’t matter. I promised you forever and I meant it. Remember? In sickness and in health, till death do us part? I meant it love. I love you.”

Trowa breathed in sharply from a wave of pain then nodded smiling weakly. “I remember. I love you too.” Duo softly threaded her fingers into his hair and sighed.

Smoothing the hair gently back into place, Duo choked back the tears that threatened to fall. The tall French teen was shivering in her arms from the intense pain. She could only imagine the intense pain that came from keeping his eyes open for her. “It’s gotten worse… hasn’t it?” Trowa nodded minutely and winced. Biting her lower lip, she leaned down and brushed her lips over his.

Struggling, Trowa slipped a hand to rest on the back of her head to keep her from moving away. His lips caressed her’s as he spoke in a labored whisper. “It’s time for me to be in the hospital… But please… give me this moment…” Pausing he waited for the gentle nod from her. After she did he pulled her head down causing their lips to come together firmly. He kissed her slowly, using every last ounce of strength he had to focus on putting all his emotions into it.

Duo kissed back softly savoring his wonderful taste. After a while she felt his tongue slide gently over her lower lip, so she parted her lips inviting him in. It didn’t take long for him to accept. Soon, he was memorizing her taste and allowing their tongues to dance with one another in loving sadness. Tears began to slide down her cheeks and fall like raindrops onto his cheeks. Crying as well, he felt their tears mix and run down his cheeks and over his chin. The kiss finally came to an end and both panted from the lack of oxygen. “Trowa…” Two sets of pained eyes stared at one another.

Slowly he wiped away her tears with trembling hands. “Don’t cry angel… angels shouldn’t cry…” Duo choked and tried desperately not to cry as she carefully kissed their tears away from his smooth pale cheeks. “Love its time.”

Nodding slowly, she gathered him up in her arms and carried him to their car. Handing him a pair of sunglasses, she knew how badly the bright light made him hurt. Silently she drove to the hospital noticing that he’d passed out from the immense pain. Glancing at him, tears began to flow down her cheeks. She wouldn’t beg him not to leave her. That wasn’t either of their choice. But what was she going to do without him? He was truly everything to her. Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself down in order to drive carefully. Pulling into the emergency area she gathered her unconscious husband into her arms again and carried him in. People stared at them, but she didn’t care. Sally was there luckily. Duo was glad of that, because the doctor quickly got a bed and took the lifeless bundle from her arms. It happened so quickly. Before she knew it, she was staring blankly at doctors running off with her Trowa. Sally glanced back at her mouthing that she’d keep Duo informed.

[Damn… he’s gonna die no matter what… Yet you still insist upon taking away our last moments together?] Duo touched her lips feeling their lingering last kiss. Staggering, she took burdened steps to the pay phone and dialed Heero’s office number. He answered immediately. “Mushi mu… Duo?! Genki da na?!”

Smiling bitterly, Duo nodded to her best friend. “I’m fine… heart broken… but fine. Trowa is in the hospital. Could you come sit with me? I’m… about to loose it.” Heero nodded slowly. “I’m gonna call Quatre now…”

There was a misted over look in her eyes that made Heero wince. “I’ll be there as soon as possible. Don’t worry. I ran a trace. I know where you are. Please stay there…”

Nodding slowly, the screen went blank. She struggled to dial Quatre’s number, but she was happy to see that he answered quickly as well. “Duo! Hi! What’s up?”

“Trowa’s in the hospital now… Could you call Wufei and Kathy please? I don’t think… I can keep going much longer.” All of the life was now gone from her amaryllis eyes by now and it scared her blonde friend.

Quatre studied the American and nodded slowly. “I will… I’ll tell them both.” Duo didn’t move, but Quatre knew she heard. “I’ll be there as soon as I can contact everyone.” Finally the braided teen nodded. “It’ll be ok Duo…” The screen flickered off and Duo collapsed onto a bench dragging her knees to her chest. Rocking her body she stared blankly at the doors Trowa had disappeared though.

Heero walked in to the waiting room looking as stoic as always until his eyes fell upon the chestnut haired girl swaying softly back and forth on the bench. Running over to her, she looked up and the tears began to fall. “Oh God Heero… I don’t want to loose him! What will I do?!” Throwing herself into his arms he held her gently to him. Nothing more was said and they just stood there silently.

There was an air of agony in the silence of the tiny hospital room. The Latin boy lay up on the bed writhing in complete pain all the while still unconscious. Duo sat on the bed at his side clutching one of his hands, but her eyes were hazed with unshed tears as she watched him thrash about. Heero stood a few feet away keeping an eye on both Trowa and Duo in hopes that some how some way, this pain would be over. Sitting beside the bed on the other side was Trowa’s auburn haired sister, Katherine. Silently she rocked back and forth a small hand pressed lightly over her mouth to stifle her sobs. Quatre stood behind her attempting to comfort her as best he could without making things worse on the two distraught women.

Wufei stood quietly near the door, eyes closed and brow furrowed in unspoken worry. No one made a noise and the only movement was from the tall lanky youth lying upon the crisp white linens of the hospital bed. They’d been there for nearly two days and still Trowa showed no signs of waking. For most of them, there was an unvoiced prayer that death would finally release their friend of this unspeakable pain, but Duo couldn’t decide which she wanted more. Truly she wanted a miracle, but knew it wasn’t going to happen. Dying blue violet eyes dropped to the cool hand that lay limply in her hand.

Sally walked in and smiled sadly at the haphazard group. “Would you mind leaving the room a moment so I can administer some medication to my patient?” Four heads nodded, but Duo remained deathly still. Heero moved to encourage her to leave but Sally shook her blonde head. “She can stay. It’s her right…”

The Japanese boy nodded slowly and exited after his other friends. Sally busied herself checking IV’s and changing out the medicines that hung from the slender silver poles. Duo began to sway slightly and choke. She hadn’t said a word since Heero arrived and they were getting worried. Squeezing Trowa’s hand she parted her lips and began to sing softly. “Tell me why… when I scream there’s no reply…” Sally stopped and looked at her tilting her head to the side curiously. “When I reach out there’s nothing to find…”

Sally sighed and refrained from lighting a hand on the American’s shoulder. “When I sleep I break down and cry…” Taking a deep breath Duo shuddered in emotional pain. “Every time I see you, oh I try to hide away… but when we meet it seems I can’t let go…” Sally shook her head and walked to the door still listening to the beautiful alto almost whispering her song. “Every time you leave the room I feel like I’m fading like a flower… fading like a rose… beaten by the storm…” The doctor shivered and walked out of the room leaving Duo and Trowa alone.

“Talking to myself… getting washed by the rain…” At these words she collapsed on the bed next to Trowa and sobbed into the stiff white sheets. Suddenly a hand fell upon the small of her back and she shot her eyes up to look at Trowa. Slitted eyes of emerald look upon her in pure love hiding the pain that made his body tremble.

“You… still sing… beautifully.” Duo smiled weakly and buried her face in his chest. It took all his strength to wrap his arms about her and hold her close. Slender fingers raveled around the heavy plait of hair as he panted for each breath of air. “Duo… listen to me… I don’t regret my life with you. You made my life… complete. My only regret… is leaving you behind.” Tears slid down his cheek from the physical and emotional pain. “Please… live… you’re so full of life. You deserve to keep living. Thank you… for giving me my life back and showing me how to love.”

Duo felt the tears spilling down her cheeks. “I’m so sorry Trowa… this is all my fault!”

Wiping away her tears with one hand he smiled softly. “No… it’s not your fault. I know why you think it is. But love… you can’t fight off the need to touch the person you love dearly.” Duo shook her head in useless effort to rid her head of the pain. “Remember... that… I love you. Remember that… you are my forever. I don’t regret it Duo… please… don’t you regret it either…”

Watching his trembling hands she whimpered in agony. “I don’t regret it love… I don’t… I love you so much!” Her body quivered from the emotions wracking through her body.

“I love you Duo… With all my heart and soul.” Gently he pulled her down to kiss her lips softly one last time. The kiss was tender and loving and his grip tightened on her braid. But in moments it was over. The once strong hand fell limp and fell away from her braided landing lifelessly upon the bed.

Clenched fists clung to her husbands clothing, knuckles turning ghostly white as she shut her eyes together so hard it began to make her head throb in pain. The shrill beep of the monitor flat lining drew her friends back into the room to stare upon Duo hovering over Trowa unmoving her fragile body trembling. In an instant she released him and pulled away and sitting up. Fists hit the bed hard as she screamed out in utter agony. “Oh God! Trowa! NO! Trowa… don’t leave me… Oh God… no…” Slowly her voice trailed off into a whisper as sobs wracked her body once more. “I don’t want to be alone… I don’t want to be alone…”

Unshed tears lingered in the other ex-pilots’ eyes as they watched. But Duo and Katherine cried freely not caring of any one thinking them weak. No one moved. No one tried to pull the braided teen away as she clung to Trowa’s lifeless form. There was a soft smile on his lips showing that he died in completeness. But that left Duo. You couldn’t have told her that Trowa wouldn’t want her to hurt like this and had it been his choice, he would have stayed with her longer than forever. Tears spilled onto the French boy’s chest as she continued to cry. “What will I do…without you…? Trowa… you are my forever…”
