~ And I don’t want the world to see me
Duo sat stone still upon the tiny chair in her office. Hilde was out for the time being picking up some parts, and Trowa was in the office glaring down upon her coldly. Beneath her desk, she fidgeted with the end of her braid attempting to hide her nervousness from the one she loved. Just moments ago he had been holding her close and trying desperately to get her to open up. But old habits kicked in and she squirmed away mumbling something about not being in the mood. Now, he stood on the opposite side of the desk looking at her coldly with eyes of frozen emerald. “Sorry Tro-kun…”
“No… I’m sorry.” Trowa turned away with jerked movements and threw his gaze out the window. “I’m sorry for ever thinking you and I could work. I obviously can’t get through to you. You’re scared of something or me and I don’t know why. You won’t even tell me why.” Trowa’s voice slowly faded away.
“No, that’s not it Trowa!” Duo felt the need to break down, realizing Trowa had just reached his breaking point.
“Then what is it? Tell me.” Jaded eyes turned to her and weighed solidly on her heart and soul.
“I…” Cutting off, fear encroached upon her thoughts. [He’d never accept me. I can’t… Either way… I’ll lose him.]
Trowa watched her and attempted to stay patient, but the emotions drove him crazy. “Well, are you going to tell me or not?”
Quivering she lowered her eyes to the cold surface of the desk. It reflected the deadening eyes of blue toned amethyst hiding beneath the thick curtain of rich chestnut. There she saw her own heart falling to pieces. “Trowa… I can’t tell you… But… it’s not you… I promise… you’re perfect.”
Anger seeped into his heart. It was the same crazy line most people used when they were finding a nice way to break up with them. Without rational thought, the fire blazed in his eyes in flickering flames of green. “So this is how it is? This is how it’s going to end? Fine. I don’t need this. That’s all crap Duo. And you were the one that…” Trowa cut off and swerved slightly as a wave of pain washed over him. “The one that…” Duo looked at him with a mixture of agony and worry and it only made him more frustrated. “That… never… lies…” With that last word, he fell like a boneless heap to the floor, unable to withstand the pain any longer.
“Trowa!” Duo bolted from her chair to his side and cradled his head in her lap. “Oh God Trowa! Wake up!”
Trowa blinked up at her groggily then closed his eyes tightly fighting off the throbbing in his head. A low groan escaped his lips as he tried desperately to look at her again. “D-Duo… oh…”
As his vision began to blur into unconsciousness, Duo talked softly still to him. “You’ll be ok Trowa… You’ll... be ok.” Choking on the last bit of the phrase, she realized that he was no longer conscious. In a mad rush she lifted him up and carried him to the small black leather couch in her office. Pushing a few buttons her vid phone sprang to life and she called the hospital and begged for an ambulance. Hanging up she took a deep breath and ran to his side. “Oh Trowa… what’s wrong…?”
Sitting in the white hospital hallways, Duo had her knees pressed securely to her chest. Heero leaned coldly against the wall not paying heed to anyone’s existence, and Quatre sat calmly beside her, ready to give her aide in a moments notice. In emotional turmoil she stared blankly at the door that led to the emergency room. Questions plagued her mind and slowly stripped away at her sanity. [Oh Trowa… you were breaking up with me, weren’t you? What happened? What’s going to happen?]
After about ten minutes, the door opened and the doctor walked out. He observed the motley group and looked straight at Duo. “It seems your friend is fine for now. He’s come to, and wants to see one of you now. Um, I believe he said it was… Duo?” The doctor looked perplexed over the odd name as Duo shot up from her seat.
“That’s me! Um, Doc, what’s wrong with him?” Duo looked completely bewildered.
The doctor shifted slightly then spoke in a somewhat rushed tone. “Over anxiety, and a severe migraine headache. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must attend to other patients.” With that the man in the white lab coat disappeared in a flurry of medical white.
Duo blinked a few times and wondered if something like that could really knock Trowa unconscious. After all, this was Trowa Barton we were talking about. Taking slow steps she walked up to his door and stopped. Looking back she saw a pair of worried aqua eyes and a pair of carefully voided of emotion prussian eyes. Both nodded and she took a deep breath. Opening the door she walked in quietly. Trowa sat upon the bed, eyes closed and breathing steadily. Stopping at the foot of his bed she knew he knew she was there, but she announced herself anyways. “Trowa?”
Without opening his eyes he merely nodded in acknowledgement. “Duo… I have something to tell you.”
Nodding slowly she cast her eyes to the crisp white linens of the bed. “Alright.”
“Since… you’re not willing to tell me anything, I can no longer pry.” Still he didn’t move or open his eyes. “Therefore, I’m letting you go. Tomorrow I leave with Katherine and the circus. It’s over.” Duo winced as if a bullet ran her through the heart. “Good luck to you, and don’t bother coming to see me.”
Slowly, her mouth gaped open. “Tro…” A hand was put up to silence her and her mouth closed with an audible click. A shake of his head was all she had to see. In an instant she streaked out of the room and past her two friends. They gawked at her in amazement not knowing what to do or think in that moment.
In the room Trowa gripped the sheets tightly. The still closed eyes were closed even more tightly. “Duo… forgive me… I just can’t anymore.” Tears began to streak down his pale smooth cheeks as he winced from the physical and emotional pain. “This is tearing me apart, Duo.”
~ Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
Duo laughed as she piloted the small craft with deft skills toward the rogue colony. A look of stern concentration spread with determination over her heart shaped face. “Ready or not… here… we… come!” Slamming a fist down on the control panel, the booster rocket released the shuttle and then rammed into a few mobile dolls. Beside her Heero smirked and nodded in curt approval. The all to familiar grin returned to her face as she looked to her partner.
To her dismay, he didn’t return the satisfied look she tried so hard to display. Instead, he quirked a questioning eyebrow knowing she was hiding her true feelings. She hated how he could see right through her. The lapse in her mask finally caused him to smile ever so slightly in satisfaction. “We need to steal a couple of mobile suits and fight our way through.”
Sighing in slight defeat she flashed him the thumbs up and whirled about quickly sending the rope like braid whipping about her. In seconds both of them were out of the shuttle and stalking about the bay. Silently she watched Heero disappear into the shadows. It was only a matter of moments before he’d have a mobile suit. The perfect soldier always completed his missions. With a shrug and goofy smile, she slinked up to an unsuspecting officer loading onto his space Leo. She marveled at how oblivious the man was as he leisurely walked to the lift cable. Carefully she fell in step behind him. Covering the sound of her footsteps with his. Before he could grip the chord she slammed a hand into a pressure point on the back of his neck causing him to collapse to the ground in a slight bundle on the floor. “This is just too easy.” Reaching out she grabbed the lift and pressed the button, which lifted her to the awaiting cockpit.
Pressing a few buttons, the mecha flared to life. “Ah… home sweet home!” She laughed at herself as the screen for the comm. Flickered on. “I see you didn’t waste anytime!”
Heero merely smirked with a touch of pride. “Duo, be careful. Proceed at your own discretion.”
Duo mock saluted. “Will do! Let’s have some fun!” She watched Heero shake his head slightly and disappear from view. “Looks like Shinigami is back in action!”
Traveling swiftly through a passageway she barely even had to concentrate on the enemies as they attacked her. A yawn escaped her as she barely put effort into in to getting by them. “How dull! Give me a challenge!” As if on cue, a blast door opened slowly to reveal a gray suit she’d never seen before. “Ah! It’s a new model!” The laughter she projected had an odd touch of glee, that is, until the double gattling gun rose and peppered her and the other suits about her with bullets. “Damn!”
Swerving the suit, she pulled back behind a wall and watched the constant spray of bullets slowly engulf and explode all the suits not quite fast enough to evade the onslaught. “This guy is pretty good.” She paused and laughed softly. “But doesn’t seem to care much for his comrades.” Moving the suit slightly she looked at the offending suit. Then suddenly she didn’t see that suit anymore, she now saw Heavy Arms. “Oh… no… it can’t be… not my… it is…” The realization threw her backward in her seat. [What a way to have a reunion. This sucks.] Trembling with the agony of knowing, she pressed her comm. button. “Trowa! Why have you betrayed us?”
Trowa sat in the pilot seat and frowned slightly. Pressing a few buttons he prohibited the display to come on. Placidly in a monotone voice he informed her of his answer. “I’m not Trowa. You’ve got the wrong guy.” Sighing softly he didn’t stop his inerrant attacking.
Duo clenched her fists tightly and in a rage threw her suit back out into the line of fire. She knew there was no use, but she wasn’t going to hide this time. The mecha creaked in protest from the penetrating bullets and soon plummeted to the ground. Closing her eyes in defeat, she relaxed. “So this is how it’s gonna end, is it?”
Gritting his teeth, Trowa aimed his missiles at the crippled suit before him. “Good bye.” Empty eyes of jade reflected the targeting screen as the shrill beeps indicated a perfect lock. Closing his eyes his hand pulled back slightly before pulling the trigger. When opening them again, he determined where the missiles hit, then smiled slightly before pulling back and disappearing.
Eyes closed tightly, Duo noticed she was still trembling uncontrollably. One eye of amaryllis opened, then the other. She blinked then realized Trowa had missed on purpose. A relaxing sigh escaped her as she slumped in the chair. “Sheesh, you could have taken it easier on me.” Rolling her eyes she opened the hatch and hopped out of the cockpit. Using the zero gravity she pressed her body through the hole Trowa had made.
Rolling her eyes, Duo reached into her pocket and pulled out a grenade. Hearing a light chuckle from her partner as she used her teeth to pull the pin. A smirk spread over her face as she reared back and threw it at the soldiers blocking the door to the main control room. “These guys are way too persistent. It’s rather… annoying!” A look of disapproval arose as she rounded the corner and covered Heero as he hacked his way through the lock on the door.
The door flew open in a matter of seconds and she more than gladly pushed into the room after Heero. Pushing a few buttons, she closed and locked the door again.
Turning, she caught her partner raking a hand feebly through deep brown disheveled hair in visible disappointment. “Should have known you would be here.” Deep violet eyes rose to see the teen boy with gravity defying red brown bangs decked out in what looked like a corny Boy Scout uniform. His back was to them so he didn’t catch the looks bearing into his back.
Without looking at them he continued his work. “Took you long enough.” Duo smacked the back of her head with her hand and groaned quietly. “I could use a little help here.”
Heero merely shrugged and took a station at one of the control panels. Duo once more rolled her eyes and walked sluggishly to the other side. Putting the headset on, she checked her frequency for word from Quatre, before her swift hacking into the network. She wasn’t disappointed and Quatre had come through for them as usual. “I’ve deactivated the last lock, the colony is now stable.” Heero’s monotone voice broke the atmosphere of clicks and beeps.
Trowa stood slowly and turned to the others. “It would seem our mission has failed.”
“At least we saved the colony.” Heero added somewhat coldly.
“It’s over.” Trowa closed his eyes and sighed.
Duo beamed and gazed over her shoulder. “Not quite! We’ve got mail from Quatre. He’ll have our Gundams here in less than twenty four hours.” Heero smiled in his odd way, which only she had seen, and Trowa nodded. After sending Heero’s message to Quatre, telling him to send Zero ahead for rendezvous in space, the soldiers as if on cue, pounded on the door demanding their surrender.
There was a careful smirk on Heero’s face as he asked Duo to hit him. She had been reluctant and somewhat surprised as he punched her back, but she understood fully. As she collapsed he caught her gently and whispered an apology in her ear. Carefully he handed her off to Trowa and then lay on the floor. Uneasily, Trowa hoisted her gently over his shoulder as he watched Heero work his magic. The guards stormed in and looked impressed upon seeing Trowa standing over the two teens. “Way to go Trowa! You took these guys down single handed!” A tiny forced smile was placed on his lips as he reluctantly handed Duo to two guards. At that moment, Heero took off and disappeared.
“Lets take this one to the brig. I’ll take him, mind you guys, he’s very dangerous.” Trowa’s tone was icy as they placed cuffs on Duo’s arms. No one argued as Trowa walked along side of Duo, making a beeline to the cellblock.
Duo sighed and laughed under her breath. Trowa quirked an eyebrow at her silently and she just smirked. “This is all too familiar Barton.” Trowa merely sneered disapprovingly and looked ahead.
“This time I have no intention of helping you out.” Trowa’s still icy voice was a whisper and made Duo’s skin crawl.
Shivering, she lowered her gaze to the floor. [He’s still mad at me…] Upon reaching the cell, the officers opened the door. Trowa placed a hand on the back of her head and she felt something cold shoved into her hair against her scalp. Wanting to smile, she choked it back hard. Shoving her in, it only looked as if it were done roughly. Stumbling into the darkness, she peered over her shoulder and into the emotionless eyes of the one she loved. For one moment, she saw pain and agony, and then it was gone. [He’s not just hurting emotionally… What’s wrong with you? Oh Trowa…]
~ When everything’s made to be broken
“Well, Quatre should be back soon.” Duo chuckled softly and reached into her hair. In a matter of moments she had her handcuffs off, and was knocking down the cell door. “Sorry guys! I’ve got a really hot date with this really angelic blonde.” She giggled and winked as she took the soldiers guns with a mock salute, and then turned and ran down the hallway.
It really wasn’t that hard, the flight to the shuttle she knew would be waiting for her, but it wasn’t exactly fun going through all this alone. Even Heero didn’t make her do this sort of thing alone. [You’d think Trowa thought I had a disease or something. Gah, I’m not the angel of death anymore, I CAN be touched.] She fumed as she remembered to regulate her breathing. This fast pace required thought out strategies of course.
Something was bothering her though. Even though, there were people after her as there very well should be, there was as many as she had anticipated. Sighing softly she let up on her grueling pace and began to slightly take her time. That’s when it happened, she wasn’t paying attention and one of the officers managed to trip her. Tumbling a few times, she threw herself back onto her feet. “Ok! Who ever did that is gonna pay!” Spinning about, the young officer didn’t see the oncoming foot bearing her all time favorite. The steel-toed boot. The man’s head jerked to the side and he crumpled into a heap moaning in pain. “Serves you right!”
After that incident, she was definitely more careful. It wouldn’t do to have any more bruises to go with the ones on her knees from that trip to the cold floor. A shower of bullets occurred as she ran across the bay floor to the shuttle door. “Much better you guys! It actually feels like you’re trying to catch me!” With precision she grabbed the doorframe and swung her lithe body into the shuttle. Laughing arrogantly she brushed herself off and then checked the long chestnut plait. Sighing she smiled happy to see that her hair was fine. “Well, thanks for waiting, though, you could have helped me! There’s nothing wrong with helping a friend in need you know!”
Trowa sat in the pilot’s chair unmoving. “I wasn’t waiting for you. Besides, you’re quite capable of taking care of yourself.” Duo frowned and felt the need to just groan.
“You’re impossible to get along with sometimes.”
“Look who’s talking.” The deadpan voice retorted.
This time she groaned and slapped a hand to her forehead. “Yeah sure, whatever.” Soon, the attitude died away and all she could do was stare at the back of his head. He was back in his usual clothing, that she was happy to see. The Boy Scout uniform did him no justice. Aching she longed to touch him, to hold him. She knew he needed her just as she needed him. But there was no chance as long as he didn’t know the truth. “Hey Tro…”
Turning slightly pained emerald looked upon her heavily in acknowledgement to her addressing him. Before she could open her mouth to speak again, a hand lighted her shoulder and made her jump. “What the?!” Turning her head she saw Sally Po and sighed. [There goes my chance and my courage to tell him the truth.]
Sally laughed and began talking to Duo. The words were lost to Trowa though. For once he was angry that someone had interrupted Duo in her chattiness. He knew, that she was going to tell him right then. He saw it in her eyes. But now, he knew she wasn’t going to. And it was all that damn doctor woman’s fault.
In the sky, a black bat like figure silhouetted against the pale moon. Within an instant, the energy scythe ignited and tore through the Serpent that was landed upon. In the cockpit Duo laughed arrogantly. “No one goes up against my Scythe and wins!” The grin was wide spread over her face as she flicked a switched that showed the movements of the cobalt blue Gundam jam packed with ammunition. That was her Trowa and his Heavy Arm Kai. Taking a deep breath she turned her attention back to the Serpents surrounding Deathscythe Hell Custom.
For a while, she listened to Noin over the comm. asking them to pull back and leave then finally got fed up with it. “Look, if we had wanted to leave, we would have been long gone by now.” Noin seemed to be accepting of this fact and stopped asking. Honestly, she wouldn’t have known, cause she droned out. All that she noticed was the fighting about her, and the little screen keeping her up to date with Trowa’s progress.
In avertedly she moved her Gundam closer to the area Trowa was in, careful not to get into the range of his firing. It took a lot of concentration really, to fight and only disable the enemy. It really was inbred instinct to fight to kill. Noises began to echo in her head as she continued the long and trying fight. It wasn’t a good time, but her mind faded back into her former life. She could see it all over again. The smiling boy of thirteen as he cradled the hand that had touched her wing. The brilliant eyes of emerald full of awe and adoration looking upon her. What she wouldn’t give to have that again. But then she couldn’t touch him. Well, she couldn’t now either. [I need to tell him.]
“Duo! Look out!” Duo blinked and looked about as if just waking up. It was Trowa’s voice and it was full of desperation. Soon she knew why. Two Serpents rammed into her and knocked her solidly against a building and kept her from moving. Straining in agony she couldn’t get Scythe to stand. The Gundam whined in protest as a blaster rifle aimed straight at the cockpit. There was no way even Gundanium alloy could stand up to that at point blank range. Perspiration formed on her forehead as she closed her eyes.
“Sorry Trowa…” The voice was barely a whisper as she let go of the controls. The Gundam slowly went limp and showed no signs of fighting back. The rifle charged and the light of the energy was now visible at the tip of the weapon.
“NO! Not this way!” In an instant Duo saw the blue and white Gundam flip into the air and catapult itself with calculated grace into the offending Serpent holding the gun. “Get the hell off of him!” Duo smiled weakly as the Serpent began creaking under the weight of Heavy Arms. It took all Trowa was worth to keep from firing both double gattling guns at the mecha beneath him. “You deserve to die for that.” His hands began to tremble as he settled for crushing the head of the mecha between his Gundam’s hands.
Deathscythe groaned as he got to it’s feet and spread it’s bat like wings again. “Thanks Tro.” Duo smiled then paused. Trowa wasn’t moving. The Gundam hadn’t moved from its last position. Suddenly it hit her. Trowa was in pain. Flicking a switch the screen revealed him doubled over in pain, head held in his hands. Duo began to shiver as she sliced the legs off of a mobile and then ran to him. Serpents were slowly surrounding him and he couldn’t defend himself. “Trowa! I’m coming!”
Angrily she caused her aiboo to slice through the titanium suits, oddly enough, still careful of the people inside. Finally after moments of sheer agony she had her suit kneeling beside his. “Trowa! Trowa!!! Speak to me! Please!”
Slowly Heavy Arms moved and Trowa looked up to smile weakly at Duo. “I’m fine. Looks like we’re even.” Duo laughed softly and nodded. “Stay alive Duo.”
“You bet. You do the same Tro.” For a moment he smiled even more widely. Something she’d never seen before. Then he nodded. They’d live through this. Then, she’d tell him the truth. The whole entire truth once and for all.
~ I just want you to know who I am
Standing on a cliff, three teens stood before the fading day. Not too far away stood their three once proud Gundams. Each worn from over use and abused from warfare. They each held sentimental value to the teens that held the tiny objects that would end the mechas’ existence. Only years of hardening their hearts prevented them from crying. Duo smiled sadly as she held up the detonation device. “Guess this is really goodbye old buddy.” With that, the platinum blonde and the boy with mahogany hair pressed the button simultaneously with her.
A bright flash of light lit up the area and reflected in the widened sad eyes. The explosion caused a rush of wind that ruffled their hair and forced them to look away. Duo closed her eyes momentarily and sighed. “I guess I will go back to being nameless.”
Duo looked up at her friend and smiled. “Names are what other people call you. It’s not something you should waste time worrying about.”
Quatre smiled brightly as well, pushing the sunlit golden hair from his eyes. “Trowa is fine.” The three smiled at one another and then all sighed at once. “So this is it.”
“Nah, it’s just the beginning. We can all now live in peace.” Duo nodded slowly. “I can’t say I’m gonna miss them. I will miss the companionship…” Blue violet eyes looked at the place where their Gundams once stood. “But not the agony of war that came with it.”
The Arabian beamed and bobbed his head in affirmation. “I totally agree.” Slowly the smile faded as he looked from the braided American to the silent French boy. “Will we see each other again do you think?”
Trowa turned and looked out over to where the Gundams had been and nodded slightly. “I believe, we all share a strong bond now. I doubt that we could deny the need to see one another again.” Quatre smiled again and looked very relieved. Duo watched Trowa silently and sighed.
Turning to Quatre she placed a grin on her face. “Don’t worry Q-chan! There’s no way I could stay away from you guys. You’re the only best friends I have.”
There was a bright glow about the tiny Arabian as he threw his arms about Duo’s neck. “Thank you. This means so very much to me.” Looking to Trowa, he finally released Duo. “You too Trowa. I’ll be on L-4. Contact me anytime. I will more than gladly welcome you guys to my home. And will come in a moments notice if you need me.” Duo smiled a true smile and fought off the burning in her eyes. It was truly one of the nicest things someone had ever said to her.
“We know Quatre. You’d better go. You’re going to miss your shuttle.” Trowa finally smiled at the petite blonde whom nodded in response. Slowly Quatre turned and walked slowly to his waiting vehicle. Glancing once over his shoulder his aqua eyes shined with unshed tears, and he waved one last time.
The two waved back silently then both turned to look at the horizon. Duo was the first to move uncomfortably. “So, what about us? Is this it?” She tried to hide the soft whimper in her voice, but it was still there.
Trowa shrugged slightly. “You know why I ended it then, everything depends on you.”
“Trowa… I think if you knew the truth about me, you wouldn’t stay with me anyways. So… I lose you either way.” Duo dropped her eyes to the ground and wondered if she could actually tell him. Slowly the iron will she had set melted away under his intense gaze.
“You doubt my love? Don’t you believe me when I say I’ll love you no matter what?” Trowa’s voice remained unchanging but inside he felt like a trembling child.
“I… I don’t know…” Duo couldn’t move her eyes from the ground. “I mean… I don’t doubt you. It’s just; I have no idea how you will react to this. And honestly… the only reaction I see is negative. It scares me.”
Trowa moved to speak, perhaps even argue for himself, but instead his face contorted with pain. Duo looked up and saw the pain clearly written on his face. She ran to his aide as he sank to his knees clutching his head and groaning softly. “P-please… Duo…” Trowa wanted to fight off the pain, but in the end all he could remember was reaching out in agony to the braided teen wanting to hold her.
“Oh God… not again… Trowa!” Duo quickly wrapped her arms about him and lifted him into her arms. Silently she thanked herself for all the vigorous training that made her strong enough to endure his weight. The taller teen lay in her arms cumbersomely. “You’ll be ok. I promise…”
Trowa smiled faintly before finally drifting off into unconsciousness.
Trowa awoke to stare at the ceiling above him. It was not familiar at all. Silently he wondered where he was and how he got there. Then he looked about the disheveled room. [Definitely Duo’s room.] He smiled despite himself and search with longing eyes about the room. Taking a deep breath he listened for any sounds. In the other room he heard the soft singing voice of the person he was looking for. Oddly, it was higher than he remembered. Blinking he stood and straightened himself. He blushed when he realized all he was wearing was his boxers. “At least he didn’t take everything off…” He mumbled the words softly before he opened the door and collided with the said American.
There was a loud crash as Duo hit the floor. She had been carrying a tray with soup and tea on it, and now, she was soaked with the burning liquid. In spite of herself she yelped in pain. “Itai!!!” She’d been punched, kicked, beaten to a bloody pulp, but never doused it hot liquid like this. Without even looking at Trowa she ran like lighting to the bathroom and jumped in the shower turning on the cold water. She hadn’t even bothered taking her clothes off. It was better that she didn’t considering her anatomy.
Looking up from the soothing cold spray of water she saw Trowa standing in the bathroom looking quite amused. “You ok Maxwell?” Duo semi glared at her charge and sighed turning off the water. Trowa handed her a towel and she attempted to dry herself off without loosing any clothing. “I didn’t expect you to bring anything to me. I’m sorry.”
A slight shrug of her shoulders and a brilliant smile let Trowa know it was all fine. Slowly she removed her shoes that had been making an annoying squish sound with her steps all the while cursing about being dumb enough to get her favorite boots wet. “It’s ok Tro. You didn’t know I was coming.” She was still stinging in slight pain, but it was easily ignored. “I’m just glad to see you awake.”
Trowa nodded and then looked at the sopping wet version of Shinigami. “Don’t you think you should change?” Duo immediately turned bright red. “You should let me look at your burns too.” She was now the color of crimson.
“Trowa…” Heero was the only one that was allowed to nurse her wounds due to the fact that he knew the truth. Now, how was she going to walk around this one? In truth, the burns did indeed need medical attention. “I… should tell you the truth first.” Her voice slipped and didn’t have the same deeper tone she’d trained her voice to carry.
The French boy arched an eyebrow at the sound of her voice then nodded slowly. “Go ahead then.” In a way, he was glad that she was ready to talk, but something inside churned at the sound of her voice. It wasn’t quite right, but nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to find out.
Taking a deep breath Duo looked to the floor like she always did when knowing that what she was saying was going to hurt the other person. “Trowa… first off I want you to know I love you more than anything and I never meant to hurt you with this.”
There was a slight nod, but he was still unable to understand what made her look so unexplainably nervous. “Please Duo… just tell me. I know you love me…”
Before she allowed herself to think anymore she blurted out as fast as she could. “I’m a girl Trowa! Please don’t hate me!” Unable to look at him she closed her eyes and prayed he wouldn’t hate her.
Jade eyes widened in utter shock. “Wh-what?!”
Tears tracked down her cheeks without her consent as she stuttered on. “I… I am… a girl…”
Trowa looked at her in complete horror. His braided baka was truly a girl. He finally realized why her voice had gotten so high. She was trying to give him hints before she told him. Silently he trembled. No, he didn’t hate her. He hated that she’d lied to him. Without words he pushed her into the bathroom and took a deep breath. There was no way he was going to stay, but he wasn’t going to leave her in her burned condition. “Duo… I’m going to take care of your burns, then I’m leaving.” The cold voice made her flinch and she nodded.
Watching Trowa dig out the burn cream after getting some ice, she silently began to take her black leather jacket off, forgetting that it was ruined due to the fact that she got it soaking wet. She winced in pain as she rubbed the reddened skin that was burned pretty badly. Trowa never once looked at her until she removed the red turtleneck and revealed her bound chest. Instantly he looked away and bit his lower lip. She whispered softly as she began to unwrap herself slowly. “I’m really sorry.”
Shaking his head he only focused on taking care of the burns that would blister if no action were taken. Carefully, he averted his eyes each time they wandered to look at her, especially when they trailed to the beautiful eyes of amethyst and sapphire. In moments he was finished and he was turning to walk out of the room. “Good bye Duo.”
Duo didn’t reply she just drew her knees to her chest and whimpered softly. It was exactly as she thought it would be. She lost him either way she looked at it. The burning and stinging on her skin was mild now and she didn’t really care to notice it. Trowa looked at her and then turned away quickly. Telling himself this was the right thing and that she deserved it, were the only things that got him out of that room and finally out of that house.
