Stoichkov moved from CSKA Sofia to the J-League team after playing in the World Cup in France in 1998.According to unofficial data the Japanese team has spent about 7 206 000 and 9 007 000 US dollars to take Hristo.His salary has been about 1 351 000 US dollars.His contract was supposed to expire in June 2000. However on the first of July 1999,the spokesman of Kashiwa Reysol,Toshima Oonari announced,that the Bulgarian has quit his Japanese team,because of lack of motivation.
"He has since told the club that he was no longer motivated to play.He also hopes to be with his two children at his home in Spain,and his father is hospitalized there."
Up to this point Stoichkov had scored 12 goals in 27 J-League regular-season matches and another goal in League Cup action.
