NOTE 4

The following is a bit of information passed on to me by Addie Harris. Addie is the decendant of Simeon and Nancy McGehee Pennington. This is a story written by

`"When Sarah Emily was one year old, her parents went from Alabama to Illinois, near Chicago. When Sarah Emily was eight years old, they moved to Missouri. The Indians were going to the Cherokee Nation at the same time, and the Pennington travelled with them for a time. Sarah Emily rode a horse with an indian woman. When the Penningtons reached Missouri, they took part Dade and Barry counties and made Lawrence County. They named the county seat Salem. Salem was later renamed Mt. Vernon. One of Sarah Emily's aunts on the Patterson side, married a Stall. Stall Creak was named for that family. Simon and Pleasant Pennington built the first farm house in Lawrence County, Missouri. ( the above information was given to Rosa Dehanas Griffith by her aunt Melinda Rosann Terrel(1856-1941) in her own hand writing."---

This info needs to be clarified to some extent. Simon Pennington married Nancy McGehee rather than Pleasant McGehee, but it should also be noted that the name Pleasant is here. Plesant McGehee was one of hte first settlers in Lawrence county. He was Nancy McGehees brother. It is likely that he travelled with these Pennington's considering the presence of his name.
