NOTE 3

James and Jane moved to Illinois around 1830. This can be deduced by understanding thier last child was born in Tennessee and he was born late in 1820s. James and Jane appear on the 1830 census of Morgan county Illinois. Also we find this below.

1830 Illinois: The followin is what I believe to be our James and Jane in Illinois. This small area was just across the border from Morgan county where they were shown to be in 1830 Illinois Census. The Elizabeth Pentalton was most likely Elizabeth Pennington as the name Pennington has often been written that way.

They were charter members of the Union Church (Regular Baptists) at
Barrow, near Roodhouse, in Greene County, Illinois.

UNION
Union Church was organized September 1, 1830, in a school house,
by Elders Aaron Smith, James Smith, and Charles Kitchens, with the
following members: Robinson Asher, John Rose, James Megeehe, Elizabeth
Penalton, Jane Megeehe, William Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Peter
Barrow, John Thompson, Winna Thompson, Walter Taylor and Susanna Taylor.
They held meetings at the different houses until June 1845, when
services were held in a church which they had just built on land given by
John Taylor. In 1878, a new church building, 28 by 40 feet in
dimensions, was erected at Barrow.
Union Church was a charter member of the Apple Creek Association, in
1830, and also a charter member of the Concord Association, in 1838.
When the Concord Association divided in 1907, Union Church, led by
Elder J. L. Ludwick, sided with those who led the "progressive
movement." The church dissolved in 1950.
