NOTE 2

The evidence of James and Jane living in Lincoln County can be found in the various records of the county. Land records, Newspaper Records, and various other sources.

LAND RECORD: The following is what I BELIEVE to be James McGehee. Note here that he is selling this land just before 1830. It was actuall sold in March of 1829. A little over one year later James and Jane were living in Morgan County Illinois. I want to stress that this may not be James but it is likely.

On the information found in Ada Oklahoma for Alexander McGehee, James and Jane's grandson it can be read that Alexander was born in Lincoln County Tennessee. Now although I know that this is not true, he was born in Southern Missouri, it is one more thing that points his family to Lincoln County Tennessee. I surmise that someone probably Alexander mentioned that his family had been in Lincoln County Tennessee and upon his death somone remmebered that and it was placed in records that he was born there. I doubt that it would have been a county that just popped up in someones mind without any prior significance.
