Black tailed prairie dogs (cynomys ludoricianus)

Natural home of the Prairie dogs, can you see the little prairie dog?

The black tailed prairie dog is a community animal that will "bond" with virtually anything or anybody. They are very sociable and love to get out and play with anybody. Cage size should be adequate to supply the animals with ample room to move around and also have room to play. The prairie dog does need toys to play with or a companion. The prairie dog likes to chew so also supply chew toys. Diet consists of: Rodent blocks, dry dog food, and fresh vegetables in moderation. The litter size is up to 5 babies. Disposition; this animal will go places with you , sleep with you and do virtually anything you do with-in reason. The prairie dog is a wild animal so it does have mood swings especially during breeding season. At this time the males tend to become little irritable monsters.

Antelope; other neighbors to the Black-tailed Prairie dogs.
