Asian Chipmunks (Eutamies sibiricus)

Cinnamon Chipmunk, White Chipmunk and 13 day old baby Asian Chipmunks

The "Asian Chipmunk" and "Black Eyed White" are the same species. The difference being the Black eyed white is a color that the European breeders have bred . The Black Eyed White is not a albino. As the eyes are black in color. The color is the only difference between these two animals. The Asian chipmunk is a very pleasing animal. They are quite friendly, easy to care for and make excellent pets. Hand raised animals will openly bond with people and become excellent companions. The only problems with having them as pets is if they are free roaming they do have a tendency to get lost in the house. They also chew. These animals are the same species that occupy the western states of the US. They are a separate sub-species in which I feel make better captive animals. Their diet consists of commercial cockatiel food, rodent blocks, dog food and corn. These animals are better kept in pairs. The enclosure needs to have hide spots and nest boxes. The gestation of these animals is 31 days on average with a litter size being 6 to 8 . The babies are weaned at 39 to 45 days. These animals have only one litter a year but if the female looses the litter they some times will breed again. The chipmunk can live up to 8 years in captivity.
