1. To Anu

1. O Lord, Very Great, of whom the Purification Rites are pure in Heaven,

Anu, Lord Very Great, of whom the Purification Rites are pure in Heaven;

God of Heaven, Lord of Heaven,

Anu, God of Heaven, Lord of Heaven;

5. Who clears the high clouds, who possesses a crown, who makes seen the signs,

Anu, who clears the high clouds, who possesses a crown, who makes seen the signs;

Who dispels the bad dream, disturbing and frightening, the signs and the bad omens;

May my sin, my failure and my grave misdeed

Be absolved by your Incantation of Life,

10. And may all this which I have done against my God and my Goddess be erased.

May the angry heart of my God and my Goddess be returned to its place,

May your furious heart calm itself, may your mood

Restore its equanimity, have mercy!

May I make abundant your house, may I make your chapel well-equiped;

15. May I sing the praises of my Lord,

And may I constantly celebrate the High Deeds of your Grand Divinity!



2. To Enlil, 1

1. Who dominates the whole of Heaven and Earth, nimble God,

Sage, knowing in oracles for the people,

Who studies the regions,

Great, Prince, whose Order is immutable,

5. That which the mouth says is immutable,

And of whose lips no God revokes what they utter;

Almighty Lord, Mountain of the Igigi,

Prince of the Anunnaki, Wise One,

Enlil, Almighty Lord, Mountain of the Igigi;

10. Prince of the Anunnaki, Wise One,

Who renews himself without ceasing, whose Order is unchanging,

And of whose lips no God revokes what they utter;

Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Father who begot the Great Gods,

Master of Destinies and Decrees, who judges without appeal,

15. The One who governs the Heaven and the Earth, the Lord of all the countries, it is you!

The living are begotten at your command,

You elect King and Governor.

Among the many stars of the Heavens,

I have trusted in you, I have pronounced your name,

20. My ears were listening for you.

Fix me a favorable fate,

Grant me your great abundance,

Pour upon me your great dignity;

May God, King, Notable and Prince appreciate me.

25. May the one who sees me ............

May my praises be in the mouths of people.

Put concord, harmony, and peace in my mouth.

In your firm concord, which is immutable,

O my God, come to my right,

30. O my Goddess, come to my left!

May a protecting God be constantly by my side;

May the courtesan and civil servant speak in my favor.

Look upon me, my God, and accept my plea;

The heart of angry God and Goddess,

35. Full of anger and wrath,

Heart which is irritated, angry and upset against me,

And the heart of your Great Divinity,

Reconcile them to me,

And each day, as long as I live, may I proclaim your mighty deeds, may I sing your praises!

Of whose lips no God revokes what they utter;

Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Father who begot the Great Gods,

Master of Destinies and Decrees, who governs Heaven and Earth,

Lord of all the countries,

10. Who judges without appeal, whose Order is immutable,

Who fixes the fates of all the Gods;

The Living are engendered by your Order,

You elect King and Governor.

Because it is in your power to create God and King,

15. And because you render the weak equal to the strong,

Among the many stars of Heaven,

My Lord, I have trusted in you, you I have celebrated,

I have been attentive to you.

Determine for me a destiny of life,

20. Order that my name be one of prestige,

Abolish the evil, secure for me justice,

Take away ...................... and give me abundance,

Put upon me your great dignity;

May God and King appreciate me,

25. May Notable and Prince do what I say,

May the one who will see me have shame before me;

May my speech be heeded in the assembly,

May Good Fortune be heard and agreeable when I speak

Go without cease every day with me.

30. God, I have celebrated you! Goddess, I have searched for you!

And I, your servant, may I live, may I be safe,

May I proclaim your High Deeds, may I sing your praises!



4. To Ea

1. Skillful King, Creator full of discernment,

Eminent Chief, Adornment of the Apsu-House,

Skilled Second Enlil (Enlil-banda), Honored Person,

Hero of Eridu, most Skilled of the Igigi,

5. Lord of the Ocean-House (E-engurra), Protector of the Unir-House,

Who brings flood, abundance; who gladdens the water-course;

In all countries and in the cannals you cause fertility to swarm,

In the fields you produce life for the people;

Anu and Enlil with joy rejoice because of you,

10. The Anunnaki bless you in their Holy Places,

The People of the country celebrate your weighty speech;

You give counsel to the Great Gods.

Ea, through your Conjuration of Life, the sick person does not die;

I, N., son of his God,

15. Whose God is Sin and whose Goddess is Ningal,

In the evil of the signs and malefic omens, unfavorable,

Which have taken place in my house,

I fear, I dread, I am frightened!

Lift my Head, pronounce my name;

20. By your command, may my complaint be heard,

At your utterance, may I arrive at good fortune;

Grant me the gift of life, may I live long;

May my speech be agreeable to God and Goddess,

May God and King do what I say,

25. May mouth and tongue entreat for me; may it not meet me,

May no evil reach me, anything that is not good,

Like the evil-doings of the warlock and the witch.

Ea, by your Conjuration of Life may all evil and anything that is not good turn around;

May the Conjuration of Eridu undo the machinations of the warlock and the witch;

30. May the Prince of the Gods, Marduk, undo their evil machinations;

May my health return, may my limbs become agreeable to me.

May Heaven rejoice because of you, may the Apsu jubilate because of you,

May the Great Gods give contentment to your heart,

May the Igigi speak well of you!



5. To Sin

1. Sin, Resplendent Light of the Pure Heaven,

Sin, Self-renewing without cease, who illuminates obscurity,

Who gives light to the people in multitude,

Your raiment is distributed over the Sumerians;

5. Brilliant is your rising in the Pure Heaven,

Splendid is your torch; your rays are like those of Girra;

Your sparks fill the vast earth.

10. Your rising is extraordinary, like that of Šamaš your son;

The Great Gods are kneeling before you, the decisions for all nations are placed before you.
