History

Wind whipped through the trees high above the Skyholt. Picca sat stone still string up at the sky, gathering her thoughts. Nightflier sat to her right. The tribe sat silent, waiting for the story to begin.
Finally Picca felt the stars within her. Gazing around at her tribes mates, she began the story that they all knew so well by heart.

Eight generations ago, when this place was still bare, our ancestors landed here in the Great Pyramid. They had fled their dying home to explore the universe, searching for a welcoming planet. When they landed here, they found only death among the shadows. The first killed was Saar, the Pyramid Guider, our most powerful ancestor.
Saar left the pyramid to explore this world, like they had so many others. Eight spear lengths from the door, a shadow attacked Saar. Her lifemate Wesaun ran to help her, throwing his fire as he ran. The flames he threw touched the shadow and it fled. Wesaun carried her back into the Pyramid. A healing circle was formed, but it was of little use. The child in her however was saved, giving us our first generation chieftess, Safre.
The ancestors met in council. All knew that none among them had the Guiding magic to fly the pyramid. Half of the ancestors wanted to stay with the pyramid, wait ing for the next one. They believed that the daughter born to a flier by a self-shaper would have the right magic. But the other nine spoke, saying that there was no guarantee that it would be soon. They argued that the tribe should leave the Pyramid, and return when the Guiding magic surfaced. And so the separation began. The arguments went on for many turns of the moon.
It was the death of Tilinca that ended it. She had wandered out one night, still a child. Tilinca was one of six born in the pyramid. With her death the nine ancestors vowed to leave the shadow lands. Taking almost nothing, they walked out of the Pyramid, and we know nothing of them since.
The rockshaper Coeta moved the earth beneath the Pyramid, settling it half into the ground. Greensprig the plantshaper grew the grass and vines, covering the rest of the great pyramid from sight. We waited at the foot of the mountain. Our numbers increased rapidly.
Wesaun led us until Safre was old enough to lead. At the time of Safre's death her daughter led. Bringing us a direct line to Nightflier. We have waited seven generations. Safre, Resa, Skyflower, Shadowchaser, Celest, Kalinsa, Treedancer, Firestar.
