Camp Songs

Boy Scouts Don't Wear No Socks, Old MacDonald and Tonga are some camp favorites sent to me by Samatha Zimmerman. Thanks Samantha!

Boy Scouts Don't Wear No Socks
(This song is yelled/chanted, then each line repeated.)

Boy Scouts don't wear no socks!
Somewhere they took 'em off!
*Threw 'em in a garbage can!
Now there ain't no garbage man!
Ding-dong, dong, dong, ding!

(*insert different rhyme each time. examples:

Threw them into the sea,
Almost started World War III!
Threw them into a car,
Now that car needs CPR!
Threw them into outer space,
Wiped out the whole alien race!
There's lots more, and it's fun to make up your own.)

Camp Granada
TUNE:Dance of the Hours

Hello Muddah, hello Faddah,
Here I am at Camp Granada.
Camp is very entertaining,
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.

I went hiking with Joe Spivey,
He developed poison ivy.
You remember Leonard Skinner,
He got Ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.

All the counsellors hate the waiters,
And the lake has alligators.
And the head coach wants no sissies,
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses.

Now I don't want this should scare ya',
But my bunkmate has Malaria.
You remember Jeffery Hardy,
They're about to organize a searching party.

Take me home, oh Muddah, Faddah,
Take me home, I hate Granada.
Don't leave me out in the forest where,
I might get eaten by a bear.

Take me home,
I promise I will not make noise,
or mess the house with other boys,
Oh please don't make me stay,
I've been here one whole day...

Dearest Muddah, Darling Faddah,
How's my precious little bruddah?
Let me come home if you miss me,
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me!

Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing,
Guys are swimming, Guys are sailing!
Playing baseball, gee that's bettah,
Muddah, Faddah kindly disregard this letteah!!!

Old McDonald

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-i-ee-i-o.
And on that farm there was a tree,
And they chopped down the old pine tree. Timber!
And they hauled it away to the mill,
Tra-la-la!

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-i-ee-i-o.
And on that farm there was a home,
Oh, Home, home on the range,
Where they chopped down the old pine tree.
Timber! And they hauled it away to the mill,
Tra-la-la!

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-i-ee-i-o.
And on that farm there was a dog,
Oh where? Oh where, has my little dog gone?
Oh where? Oh where can he be? He's,
Home, home on the range,
Where they chopped down the old pine tree.
Timber! And they hauled it away to the mill,
Tra-la-la!

Old McDonald had a farm, ee-i-ee-i-o.
And on that farm he had a sweetheart,
Oh won't you call me sweetheart,
won't you wisper in my ear,

Porridge Tragedy
(To the tune of Clementine)

In a camp down in the country
Dwelt some Scouts on holiday.
Twenty-three they were in number
Quite enough to take away.

In the camp, there was a Girl Scout
Who was like most little girls.
She was either up to mischief
Or was kicking up a noise.

Rose she early every morning
At precisely half past four,
Then she's go out and shout her war cries
Far too near the leader's door.

Then the leader, then the leader,
Soon began to jump and roar.
Just because that silly Girl Scout
Wouldn't let her be and snore.

So she made the early riser
Take the porridge spoon and stir
First explaining how to do it
Lest an accident occur.

Then the Girl Scout, very anxious
Thought the porridge she could smell.
Put her head into the kettle,
Lost her balance, in she fell

. Saw her head above the porridge
She was looking mighty red.
How she wished that she'd kept silent,
And kept to her little bed.

When the Scouts went down for breakfast,
There were only twenty-two.
Though the leader called it porridge
They all thought that it was stew.

All you Girl Scouts, old and youthful,
Bear in mind this story sad.
Never spoil your Leader's slumber.
Lest your fate should be as bad.

Tonga
(chanted, repeated)

Tonga! Tonga! (cup hands around mouth) (repeat)

Rikki-tikki tonga! (stick out pointer finger and shift hands up and down)
Moosa-moosa-moosa! (make moose antlers with your hands)
Awela, awela, awela, awe-ela. (move hands like doing a hula)

(change the way you sing it each time, really loud, quiet, or in a funny voice...)

The Twelve Days of Summer Camp
(to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas")

On the first day of Summer Camp,
My leader said to me,
Be careful of poison ivy.
2nd day Clean out the lats and
3rd day Don't chew gum
4th Don't throw up!
5th Where's your hat?
6th Time for inspection.
7th Take out the garbage.
8th Eat your oatmeal.
9th Where's my repellant?
10th Drop that snake.
11th Not another seance.
12th Where are your parents?
