JOHN RILEY WALLING, 69, was born Jan. 22, 1922, in
Dallas, & was adopted by the Walling family who lived in
Big Spring. He married Doris Williams (RHS-1951) in May
of 1973 in Midland. John had been previously married &
had four children by his first wife. He and Doris had
a son, Jay Paul Walling in Midland. Jay graduated from
Angelo State College & now works in an office at Shannon
Hospital in San Angelo. In 2000, he married Pam Thompson,
and they have two children, besides the daughter Pam
already had.
John Walling was an independent contractor for the U.S.
Postal Service. He & Doris lived in Midland for several
years until Doris was transferred to San Angelo with
Texas-New Mexico Pipeline (a subsidiary of Texaco). After
graduation from Hardin-Simmons University in 1957, she
worked for Texas-New Mexico Pipeline for 39 years. John
moved his operations to San Angelo where they lived until
his death on January 16, 1992. He was buried in Merkel
beside his first wife. Doris Walling continues to live
in San Angelo.
