Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1941

JAMES ROBERT "BOB" SMITH, 76, died March 1, 2002, after a long illness with Alzheimer's. James was born Aug. 20, 1925, to Homer and Sara Smith. He was raised in Ranger, TX & graduated from the University of Tulsa. He played cornerback for the NFL Champion Detroit Lions in 1952 and 1953, and is the holder of the world record interception run-back for touchdown of 102 yards vs. Chicago Bears in 1949. He was a successful businessman and a beloved husband and father. "If life gives you lemons - make lemonade." Survivors at the time of his death: brothers, Major General Homer D. Smith (retired, RHS-1938) and David James Smith (RHS-1944) & wife; Patricia Feeney Smith; daughters, Susan Brown and Carole Maclean; son, Brent Smith; grandchildren, David, Willie, Maggie, Kate, Miranda, Jacy and Blain. He also had a brother, William Smith (RHS-1940).
