Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1938

Dickie Hodges DR. RICHARD "DICKIE" HODGES, 83, died Dec. 31, 2004 with burial at at Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX. Dickie was born to Dr. Bob and Opie Bristow Hodges on Feb. 25, 1921. He was born with his twin brother, Ross, in Ranger Texas. He was a graduate of Ranger High School in 1938, entered Texas A&M University to pursue the pre- vet program, however college was interrupted by World War II where he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor. Upon his discharge, he returned to Texas A&M in the College of Veterinary Medicine and he graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1949. He was married to Peggy Bundick (RHS-1944) and they had a daughter, Mary Ellen, born in Eastland County. Dickie first worked for the Department of Agriculture and Texas Animal Commission. His professional memberships included the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. He was also a member of the Lions Club International, The Men's Fellowship Bible class, attended the First United Methodist Church in Eastland and Served on the Olden Water Board during the 1980's. He returned to Ranger to open his veterinary practice in 1950 where he practiced large and small animal medicine all over the north Texas area. He retired his practice in 1961 but continued to ranch for years in the area. Dr. Hodges married Dois Lynn (Wilson) Morton (RHS-1940) in December of 1971, his wife of 33 years. They lived in Olden until recently when they moved to Abilene. He was a devoted family man as well as an avid hunter & fisherman. Dr. Hodges was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dr. Bob and Opie Hodges; brother, Bob Jr. Hodges; and twin brother, Ross Hodges (RHS-1938). He is survived by his wife, Dois Hodges; daughter, Mary Ellen Pearcy; son, James Morton and wife, Suni; daughter, Jannie Rodgers and husband Al of Abilene; grandchildren, Mallory Kate and Justin Ross Pearcy, McKayla, McKall and Behren Morton, Richard Rodgers and wife T. Lee, Rodney Rodgers, Randal Rodgers and wife Lori; seven great-grand- children; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
