Ranger Exes Memorial - RHS Class of 1936

Oleta Pounds Surles OLETA POUNDS SURLES, 88, of Rockwall, TX passed away Oct. 26, 2005, with interment at the Rest Haven Memorial Park. She was born September 19, 1917, in Wizard Wells, TX, to Glenn & Virginia Pounds and reared in Ranger, TX. Oleta attended Ranger High School in the Class of 1936. She married Wendell Surles of Cisco, TX, in 1940 and moved to Dallas where they lived until moving to Austin in the early 1970’s. They celebrated their retirement years at Cedar Creek Lake. Oleta’s beloved Wendell preceded her in death in 1997. She then moved to Rockwall to spend her remaining days with her cherished daughter and family. Oleta was an avid and gifted golfer and played through her 83rd year. She was a member of Lake Pointe Church, where she attended services regularly. At the time of her death, she was survived by her loving family; her daughter and son-in-law Carol and Don Brewer of Rockwall; grandchildren: Doug and Kathy Brewer of Point, Greg and Karen Brewer of Rockwall, and Holly and Darren Sapp of Rockwall. She is also survived by 10 great-grand- children who adored her. Oleta also leaves behind two brothers: Adron Pounds (RHS-1932) of Arlington, and Joe Bob Pounds (RHS-1941) of North Port, AL; as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Inez (RHS-1936) & J.T. Belknap (RHS-1930) of Killeen; plus numerous nieces and nephews with whom she maintained very close relationships.
