Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Page This is a VERY COOL SITE--so much information on children's literature!!!

JMU Library Exhaustive resource for Children's literature

Teaching Books This is a website that allows you to have links to children's authors to aide in author study units. Also has a variety of different other information that will be helpful to you as a teacher.

Internet Library Internet library great for students and teachers. Life saver if you have forgotten to get a book from the library and you are in the middle of teaching the class. You can go here and also use it to integrate technology into your classroom.

Scholastic Inc. Your favorite publisher has this excellent resource on children's literature. Especially helpful for author and book studies.

The Children's Literature Web Guide This is a website that is filled with tons of useful information, for either students or teachers. The information on this website leads you to other links about literature for students and the ways in which you can incorporate literature.

Embracing the Child This site is wonderful for finding books. The books are categorized and listed by type of book AND winners of awards.

McGraw Hill This site is methods of teaching with links to subjects such as instructural design, it has the blooms taxonomy, curriculum theories and links to other sites that are helpful to all teachers.

Harper Children's This website has areas for students, families, teachers and teens. Each area has wonderful sections that could benefit teachers. Lesson plans, activities, book recommendations.

Education Place A branch of Houghton Mifflin. It has thematic units, current event issues for classes, book suggestions and professional development.

CHILDREN'S POETRY SITES

Songs 4 Teachers This site has holiday, back to school, dinosaur, insect, animals and several more songs and poems. Most of these songs and poems are three to four verses long and are cute and easy to sing. The students will love and enjoy a classroom with music and poetry.

Mama Lisa’s Pages This site contains all of Mama Lisa’s children’s book recommendations. She breaks the books down into the following categories: The Very Young, Picture books, Longer Works, Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tale Books, Poetry, CD’s, and Parenting.

JMU Excellent site for information about Multicultural Children's Literature

GLSEN Good website that discusses gender/sexuality/stereotyping etc. Good resource for those of us who are uncomfortable exploring situations other that our own.

CSU Korean folktales online

INTERACTIVE AND FUN SITES FOR CHILDREN

PBS Kids Fun stuff that occupies the KIDDOS on PBS can be found on this interactive site!

Yahooligans This is a child-friendly search tool to find information on a wide variety of topics. Would be great to have up at your computer station in the classroom and let kids explore topics of interest.

Kids Discovery This web site has a number of links to the different areas that the discovery channel is involved in. It includes the learning channel, discovery health, animal planet and the travel channel. This is a website that you will have to monitor because it can contain graphic information when asked particular questions.

Cool Math 4 Kids This is an excellent website for math. It covers every level of math in a fun way. It has games, puzzles and different lessons for math. This is an easy site to get to and use and you do not have to supervise it.

Sites For Teachers This site has any site imaginable for teachers.

Education World This website provides ways to use technology in the classroom, professional development sites for teachers, and many lesson ideas for teachers. It also has a reference library, a place to find teachers tools, and you can subscribe to receive free newsletters.

Crayola This is a site for teachers, parents, and children. This site offers lesson plans and gives you some neat activities to do with the lessons. It also provides the children with online color sheets to color with.

I Love That Teaching Idea This site is a great resource for teaching ideas in all different subject areas. People post their ideas to this site that have been successful in a classroom. There is also a discussion board where you can post questions or comments. Worksheets are available to be downloaded, and there is a store to make purchases related to teaching.

History Page This site is based on history. There are different pages that are for the different eras of history along with a history quiz of the day. There are personal accounts of some of the different wars.

Math Forum This site is for teachers to get different activities and projects for the children in the class. There is also a place to find journals and publications about math.

Court TV This site is called Working With Adolescents. This helps with learning on how to deal with the adolescent child and the life experiences they will go through.

CSUN These sites, organized in nine categories, include lesson plans, instructional materials, online activities and projects, and virtual trips to musuems and other places.

Virtual Teacher In addition to a FREE weekly newsletter, this website has great online Lesson Plans, Great Sites, Free Stuff, Tips, and Time savers. Also go to the Teacher Professional Development Page, there are some really great educational websites.

Minnesota State Academy for the Blind Visit the "Content Matrix" of the Classroom Resources to get to specific links to lesson plans and Web Links in Art, Astronomy & Space, Biology and Chemistry.

Electric Teacher This website is a First Grade Teacher Site that has A-Z Lesson Plans.

Teaching Ideas There are a wide variety of time fillers that teachers can use that are also fun for the students.

Ice Breakers This website had really great ideas for motivators that included playing cards. When students do good things, they are rewarded with a playing card, at the end of the day, the students play a hand of Poker and the student who wins the hand wins the prize.

Ed Helper This is a website that gives 21 links to websites that have wonderful lesson plans and ideas for lesson plans. It also gives lesson plans for the most current holiday(s) that were collected from a variety of sources.

Thirteen Ed Online This free service features everything from standards-based lesson plans and classroom activities to a multimedia primer, online mentors, and reviews of curriculum-based Web sites.

The Gateway The Gateway to educational materials is a website that provides educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. Gateway provides links to free Internet materials, partially free materials, and to resources that require a fee or registration to be used.

Lesson Plans Page This has 1500 original lesson plans for Pre-K-12 grade. You can choose from a variety of subjects, seasonal lesson plans or the most recent additions. It also provides worksheets and tips on how to implement a lesson plan.

Learning Page This site has a collection of instuctional materials that anyone can download and print out. It contains lesson plans, books, worksheets, and many more other items that you can print out. I just discovered this one and love it!!!

Ask Eric This is part of Ask Eric's Portraits of Success series. The title of this article is "Motivating Today's Students: The Same Old Stuff Just Doesn't Work". It includes easy-to-read articles contributed by three teachers that are full of great ideas for motivating students. One example is to give the grade in a positive manner such as +15, instead of -5. You can also do your own search for other education related articles.

McMaster University This is a short page with three motivational strategies: jigsaw, storyboard, and concept mapping. The authors of the website include advantages of using these methods over more traditional methods.

University of Kansas Great site to get the students involved is Bugs in the News! - wonderful for students with learning disorders , because it piques their interest right off the bat with asking the questions . . . “What the Heck is.....????” There are approximately 30 What the Heck questions that the students can click the link to and find out the answers to questions - A sampling of the questions are What the Heck is. . . A GENE ???? Wanting to know the answer to that would motivate any student.

Innovative Classroom This website provides classroom management tips, lesson plans, sponge activities, and thematic unit ideas.

Inspiring Teachers This is a great website for beginner teachers! It provides classroom resources, tips, mentoring, and numerous hyperlinks to many educational sites.

Microsoft Education This is a great site as it has lots of integrated lesson plans for technology. You can find a link to write a technology plan, find Microsoft product tutorials, and integrate Microsoft products into the curriculum.

PBS Teachers Makes it easy to locate and use the best television and web resources available. Has hundreds of ready to use lesson plans.

Teacher's Net This site has chat rooms, lesson plans, book suggestions, and support system for teachers. It would be one to bookmark.

Discovery This website is filled with science, humanities, and social study lesson plans for all ages. They correspond to the Discovery Channel and can be used with or without the video programs.

Yale This site is for help with kids who do not like to read. It gives teachers a helpful lesson on how to get a student to read and enjoy what they read.

Lesson Plans This is a website for teachers. It provides lesson plans on anything that you could imagine.

Reading A-Z This sight has level reading material available for downloading. This would be a valuable site for a first year teacher to build a leveled reading library.

THEMES AND UNITS

Themelinks A must sight for early childhood themes! This sight is organizer alphabetically by themes, so it makes it very user friendly.

Enchanted Learning Resources for teachers and students to go along with specific topics and themes. Very organized website with big block format and lots of pictures so that kids could navigate as well.

ABC Teach A great site teaming with information and resources for teachers, kids, parents, and even student teachers. Lots of good theme units and all the materials needed are printable.

The Teacher's Guide This site has lesson plans for thematic units, it has clip art, children's songs, book activities and more. It also provides more eduactional websites for teachers and gives several links for free stuff (printouts, clip art, and software).

THOSE HARD TO FIND ESL OR BILINGUAL PAGES

ESL Lounge Features books. cong lyrics, board games, teachers' forums, letsson plany, etc. All resources were categorized by age and levels.

BUILDING A CLASSROOM WEB PAGE

Teacher Sites This is my favorite site. This site is made up from different teachers. It links to other primary teacher’s websites so that you have access to about 50 teachers’ lesson plans and ideas. THIS IS A MUST SITE FOR EVERYONE!!! There is not a teacher in the world who would not like this site. It has author studies, phonics units, books, thematic units, and much more.

Teacher Web For only $2.50 per month, TeacherWeb.com is a good website to help teachers stay in touch with their students, parents, and coworkers. You build you're own site through the easy-to-use website instructions.

Geocities This website is available to aid primary teachers in finding helpful websites. It is full of adorable icons that lead to wonderful and useful websites. You can also create your own website here for free!

School Online If you are looking for a site that will help you build a web page, then this site is for you! For a small fee, you can build a user friendly website that will help you communicate with your students, parents, and coworkers.

OTHER HELPFUL SEARCH ENGINES

Google This site covers about any subject you want to get information about. It is not as user friendly as others but it is not limited in topics to choose from. This is another site that will require direct supervision.
