Oracle DBA/Development Lead for the development and support of Oracle 7.3.x/8.0.x (NT and HP-UX platforms) Intranet thin client and Powerbuilder 5.0/6.0 thick client applications. Includes Long Distance Rates Quotation (voice and data) application, a large business customer custom billing system (intranet/Oraclce Webserver based) to enable large businesss customers to access detailed account information, both via invoicing and account downloads and internet access, a switch update facility, a rating engine for bulk call detail records. Manage 3 junior DBA’s, 3 PL/SQL and 2 Powerbuilder programmers and has matrix responsibility for 3 System Administrators.

Production support for various Oracle instances (7.3.4.0 and 8.0.5) including on-line and cold backup/recoveries. Performs day-to-day user support and oversees regulatory change/ enhancements to the production systems. Platforms include HP Netserver/Compaq 5500/6500 NT servers, HP K420/570 and T600 servers, and includes an EMC 5700 680Gigabyte disk array.)

Appointed as DBA for the support of various waferfab instances (Oracle 7.x) on a 24 by 7 worldwide support system. Team lead for replication server implementation on 3 distributed sites (India, Germany, Japan) and linking these databases to the US site. Acted as development lead for a Powerbuilder development for a capacity analysis and planning toolset for new waferfab installations (including cost of ownership and financial/equipment/yield analysis software).)

Acted as database consultant to a workflow/object-oriented database application running under InConcert to establish an additional Oracle instance for the excess data requirements (the object-oriented environment cannot cope with all the datasets). Implemented a data warehouse for the application (Quality Tracking System) which will link to the main Oracle instance. This constituted a multi-Gigabyte VLDB environment (Oracle 7.3) supporting OLAP and time-slice multi-dimensional marketing and manufacturing analysis applications including quality control.

Established standards for Gemstone 4.1 OO database software for tuning and backup parameters. Acted as DBA for various instances.

Appointed as DBA/Development Lead for the implementation of a Cost & Facilities Analysis Accounting System. Responsible for data analysis and physical database design and implementation on Oracle 7 on a HP 9000 platform. Supported a Powerbuilder 4.0 front-end application and oversees and is responsible for all PL/SQL package development for the application tier of the system. Responsible for day-to-day database administration and UAT pre-production support (40-user 2 Gigabyte environment), as well as backup to lead DBA with overall responsibility for 17 instances across 3 additional HP 9000 servers across 150 Gigabyte (total storage) Disk arrays.

Appointed as lead analyst on a re-engineering project of an existing legacy (27 year old) Credit Card System (Posting and Cardholder Profile). Extracting business rules from legacy code and user requirement sessions. Analyzing and validating legacy data (from existing VSAM file structures) and constructing logical data model in IEF (5.3). Modeling new design utilizing Information Engineering methodology. Responsible for delivering a 3rd normal form logical data model for implementation on a DB2 batch driven back-end. The existing CICS on-line inquiry/update (OLTP) environment are to be replaced by a GUI front end, which will be an extension phase to the project (was part of effort to prepare technical architecture requirements).

Responsible for the design of program specifications and development support of a Material Specification And Design Application for the chemical industry. Supports an ADW lower case (design and construction workstations) and MFCOBOL development environment. Re-engineer logical database design for DB2 implementation. Provide Data Architect support to ensure stability of logical model vs. physical implementation (oversee de-normalization procedures). Established methodology and CASE standards for program specifications and ADW encyclopedia management routines. Responsible for design of architecture for a proposed client-server phase of the overall development (targeted for mid 1995) with ORACLE as the development platform and UNIFACE development environment. Design lead person for a development team of 4 developers.

Database analyst/DBA responsible for analysis and design specification development of 4 modules of a distributed Customer Information System, using ADW for the CASE support. Development was done in Powerbuilder 3.0 on a SCO/UNIX platform, using ORACLE7 as the DBMS. Added to the existing project team at a late stage to assist in bringing the specification delivery phase up to date. The logical model was delivered on time and was responsible for the cut-over design (translation) of the final logical model into a first-cut database schema for the targeted Oracle platform (v7.0.16 on SCO Unix).

Contract data analyst/JAD facilitator. Analyzed user requirements and developed functional specifications and designed logical database for a utility company (2.5 million account holders, $3.7 billion annual revenue/billed monthly). Facilitated JRP/JAD sessions to obtain user input for a Marketing/Sales/Product Delivery/Financial Accounting structure. Developed design specifications on ORACLE Case Designer and prototypes for user evaluation on ORACLE Case Generator for implementation on ORACLE 7/HP 9000 with Windows 3X/iX86 clients through NETWARE and SQL*Net. Acted as technical consultant to business project leader during this period. The required specifications were delivered on time and accepted by the project sponsor during January 1994. Part of total team of 15 (3 JAD consultant/data base designers; 2 IE consultants; 1 technical support supervisor; 9 business users).

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

During the period July 1992 to June 1993 developed data base specifications to integrate a distributed manufacturing and accounting custom developed software package for management reporting purposes (DSS and EIS). The software environment consisted of 15 separate applications at 207 remote sites in 9 regions (reporting to a central head office) and was developed in Magic-PC on NETWARE 3 and BTRIEVE. The database design involved a roll-up to ORACLE6 on an HP server via a X25 WAN. Acted as project leader for 1 business user/process engineer; 1 systems integrator; 3 software developers.

During the period March 1992 to June 1992 developed implementation specifications to port a Natural2/ADABAS (MVS/XA platform) software suite for a national college examination system to a distributed system platform (63 college sites in 9 provinces) on OS/2/ADABAS technology linked to a SNA gateway to update the mainframe application. The existing specifications was improved to eliminate the centralized reproduction and distribution of 11 million examination papers annually (during 5 separate examinations). 50 JAD sessions was held over a 6 week period to deliver the specification as required by the client, who immediately implemented the solution. Acted as technical project leader to 3 business users/statisticians and 5 software developers/1 database administrator.

During the period November 1990 to February 1992 managed the design and implementation of a municipal/utility management package (including A/R, GL, Cash Receipting/Inventory Management, Creditors, Cost Accounting/ Management Reporting) on an INFORMIX/SCO UNIX platform (HP9000/Inteli86 distributed technology). Logical specifications was developed in IEW/ADW case utilizing IE principles over 6 months continual JAD sessions. The initial product was sold to 3 clients which required customization of the package to suit individual needs, and these were developed during JRP/JAD sessions to tailor the implementation build of each requirement.

During the same period took responsibility for the full project life cycle of a leased mining rights system which oversee complex underground mineral/mining rights (for a large mining house) was managed and developed on ORACLE CASE on an ORACLE6 platform. Development and implementation required use of Forms2/3 and SQL/PL. Rendered business analysis consultation for the same client (a Software House) for various other turn-key projects (Rail-Car Management, University Student Administration, Scrap Metal Inventory Management, Money Market Trading Desk Management System), and trained personnel in Information Engineering concepts and Joint Application Design/Development techniques. Established an in-house methodology based on Information Engineering and integrated ORACLE/INFORMIX distributed system design and development practice. Evaluated various CASE toolsets and developed standards for use by the client as a corporate development platform.

During the period June 1990 to November 1990 completed a Marketing Information System logical design for a railroad company, utilizing JAD and Information Engineering methodology, and IEW/ADW toolset for developing specifications. Trained project support team member on a technology transfer basis in logical design and project management fundamentals, as well as establishing standards for using CASE as a corporate design support platform. The design was implemented on a DB2/CICS platform.
