OILFIELD & OFFSHORE
Oilfield drill bits, pipe elevators and cross hanging from my mirror for blessed good luck..
I was in the oilfield for approximately a year and a half. I mostly did well surveys and orientations using gyros downhole. I went offshore twice, but mostly I was a land hand. I briefly tried my hand at directional drilling, but with family stuff going on, I left the oilfield in 2008. It was a real exciting experience and I'm glad I got to do it.
UPDATE: I re-entered the oilfield as a MWD hand in March 2012. At the beginning I trained in OKC and worked in the KS/OK area while waiting for more work in my home district, Houston.
Some updated pix from 2012:
MWD computers in the MWD work area.
MWD tool rigged up and ready to run in the hole.
Flare burning off gas as it comes out of the well being drilled.
Nomac 357 outside Arnett, OK in 2012.
Diesel engines running the draw works on the rig.
Driller's station on the rig. This controls the drilling functions on the rig.
A Terragator truck, spreads water from the tank..Pretty wierd looking..
Roughneck working the tongs on the rig floor. The tongs grab the pipe to make or break connections.
The following images are various shots of rig sites and an offshore platform, including a rig dog.
