SHOW will be held at the exquisite Doubletree Guest Suites hotel, located in downtown Austin, Texas. Nearby attractions include the University of Texas at Austin, Texas state capital, museums of all sorts, shopping malls and restaurants. Make sure to call the local number of the Doubletree - (512) 478-7000 - and ask for the "Stampede" or "Texas Collector's Association" rate of $109/night; HOWEVER, please note that ONLY SATURDAY activities will be held near & around the Doubletree. All other events for the weekend will center around the HAMPTON INN (see below). There will be room sales on Friday and Saturday nights at the HAMPTON, so you will want to make your room reservations there.
And for those of you flying into Austin, a shuttle can be arranged to transfer you to and from the airport. Just let me know and we'll arrange it for you. It'll be cheaper than a cab and much nicer. Drivers will be horse-friendly too. :)
In addition, SOUTHWEST AIRLINES is
offering a 10% discount on most of its already low fares, for travel to and
from the Austin STAMPEDE MHS. Call (or have your professional travel agent call) the Southwest Airlines Group
and Meeting Desk at (800) 433-5368, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm and
Saturday, 8:30am - 5:30pm (any time zone) and refer to I.D. Code T0978.
Call by no later than 5 days prior to first date of travel to take advantage
of this offer. Call right away as fares are subject to terms and
availability. (Because advance bookings are accepted by Southwest only through dates for
which schedules have been opened, reservations may not yet be available for
confirmation). Travel in or out of Dallas Love Field is subject to the
requirements of the Wright Amendment.((Sorry, I'm supposed to type all that!))
There are also plenty of things for the non-horsey members of your family to do---just write to me with their interests and I'll let ya' know what's close! As an Austin resident for 18 years and part-time concierge, this is second-nature for me.
PETER and ELAINE STONE of STONE HORSES will by my guests of honor! The Stones will be contributing some models to my AUCTION.
STONE Horses will be offering a VERY limited special run of their rearing horse! See the AUCTION LINKto see a picture of his prototype! Limited run of 500!
There will be a BIG welcoming party and AUCTION on Friday the 18th. These events will ORIGINATE at the HAMPTON INN, NOT the Doubletree. A FREE shuttle has been arranged (requested / first-come, first served) to transport guests to DICK CLARK'S AMERICAN BANDSTAND GRILL (it's like a Hard Rock Cafe). Or, you can meet us there in your own car, it's only a few miles from the Hampton ;). Real-horse activities are also planned:
Saturday night, after the live show, there will be horse-drawn carriage rides provided by Die Gelbe Rose Carriages, to pick up passengers from the Doubletree Hotel and take them thru beautiful downtown Austin. : Fares $5/adult, $2/kid (12 & under) for a 20 minute ride thru the scenic state capital grounds and nearby downtown. You will love these horses, from belgians to clydesdales! A draft horse lover's delight! Fine white carriages too! Of course, it's FREE to come visit with these lovelies, pet them and take your photos with them.
On Sunday morning the 20th (leaving around 7-8 am so those who have to drive home can attend), a bus trip to a real horse farm, SOUTHWEST STALLION STATION has been arranged (see the farm's link to find out what kind of bloodlines are running around there -- very impressive!). Bus will load passengers at the Hampton Inn. : Tickets will be $5/children 12 & under, $10/adults 13 & up. Trip consists of a five-hour "field trip" (travel time calculated within this timeframe, which would be about 1 hour roundtrip). Coolers and snacks may be brought onto the bus. This will be a BIG, motorcoach-type bus, with VCRs and TVs to watch cool horse videos on the way there & back for entertainment.
There is also a renaissance and fantasy faire, "The Underhill Village Faire and Chieftan's Feast" to be held this same weekend, less than an hour's drive from the hotel. If there is enough interest, a shuttle can be provided for those wanting to attend. The shuttle would be provided for Sunday only. The shuttle would cost approximately $5/person or less, depending on amount of interest. Tickets to the faire must be bought thru Underhill Productions:
Admission: $7.50 adult, $3.00 children ages 2 to 12, free admission
children under 2.
Feast admission: $35.00, includes one day admission
to the faire. Reservations must be made in advance.
