We are now working on a leopard (Panthera pardus) population project at Rungwa/Piti Game Reserves, Tanzania, East Africa.  For this field project, we are live capturing leopards to measure home range size and activity.  Knowing the area that these individuals may need in a specific area, we could have a rough idea of how many leopards will be in the rest of the Reserve.  To date, we have captured 17 leopards and set 14 GPS collars on them during two periods of field work. On june of this year (2003) we will travel again to the study area to recuperate seven of the collars we left with the leopards.   This field study is supported by the Government of Tanzania, Robin Hurt Safaris, Safari Club from Mexico, Unidos Para la Conservacion, IUCN, Kora, and Cullman and Hurt Community Wildlife Project.

Since for this project we use GPS radio-collars, our costs are very high, so any funding will be greatly appreciated. Please contact us by e-mail!
