The Engagement
June 18, 1999

I think that no matter how a man proposes it
will be remembered as one of the most special days
in a woman's life. The week before Jeremy proposed,
I was away in Corpus Christi. Jeremy used this
time to buy the ring and ask my dad for his blessing.
My father, knowing me well, warned Jeremy about my
many moods and habits. Jeremy knowning this STILL
asked me to marry him.
On Friday, June 18, Jeremy was to take me to work.
My car was without air conditioning, which in Texas
is necessity during the summer. Just before 8 a.m.,
we left to drive to work. When I got to the car he
opened the door and on my seat was a dozen long-stemmed
red roses. I turned around to thank him and he said
"That's not all." and proceeded to pull the little
white velvet box from his pocket and opened it. I
wasn't sure what to say so I gave him a hug and kiss
and took it from the box and put it on my finger.
Since I didn't give him the chance to "ask" he did
later the next week. And as they say, the rest is history.
