David

As a child, David loved Grumpy Bear

And Teddy Bears of all kinds.
At one time he had 16 bears...some hand made.

In this section of my page I want to say thank you to my now 20 year old son, David. He has put up with so much garbage since I entered this relationship that a weaker person might have run or killed themselves. But David has remained with me, despite the anger and torment Jon puts him through. He has been here for me and helped me in so many ways. He is truly a great person with a heart of gold. Compassionate, loyal and loving, I couldn't have done this without him.

When I was a young child I promised myself that if I ever had any children I would never leave their father because the step-parents in my life had been less than ideal. And this destructive relationship between my husband and my oldest son epitomizes all of the reasons I made this promise to myself...a promise I deeply regret breaking.

Even though the man I married is determined to drive him away, and has suceeded in driving my other older children away, David has put up with his unreasonableness beyond anything I feel I could have endured. And he has endured. And triumphed. And learned and grown. Putting his anger behind him as best he can, determined to stick it out with me and for me and for his little brothers. This young man deserves a medal and has all my love, support and respect. A thousand thank-yous, David.

In the summer of 1998 David's father and brother flew down from Washington State to watch their oldest son and brother graduate from high school. It was a dream come true. David was the one that a teacher said would NEVER graduate. And he proved her wrong. Others said he would NEVER pass the TASS test and he proved them wrong also. It was a proud Friday night for us all when he walked across that stage to become our first Del Valle Graduate.

In the summer of 1999 David moved out of my house and in with his sisters and his sister's husband. It was a difficult thing for me. For the first time in 26 years there wasn't a Lehman living in my house, and for the first time since I met Jon all of the Lehman children were gone. I felt I had failed. But he is thriving and working and doing well living with his siblings...and under much less personal stress I am sure. He now works for long hours for Multex making computer motherboards. And he and his siblings are saving money to move back to Washington State.
