Keeping your bike in good order

Caution To keep your bike in safe working order, it is important that you observe the following rules.

1. Inspection and maintenance: Make frequent inspections to insure that all nuts, bolts and hardware are tight and that no parts are worn or damaged.

2. Caliper brakes: Keep brake pads adjusted and level, centered with respect to the rim, with a clearance of about 2mm (1/16) between the rim and brake pads. Replace worn or missing brake pads. Do not allow wax, oil or rubber preservatives (such as , etc.) on the rim.

Note Following the normal lubrication of the drive chain, derailleur, etc., make sure to wipe all lubricants from the rims’ and tires’ surface.

3. Control cables: Replace worn or damaged cables. Adjust cables regularly because they tend to stretch out, especially when they are new.

4. Front fork : Replace bent or damaged fork. Never attempt to straighten.

5. Head Bearings: Keep properly adjusted; handlebars must turn freely. Make sure there is no play in the headset. Keep headset lock nut tight.

6. Front wheel: Keep axle nuts or quick-release tight. Check quick-release before every ride. Wheel should be centered in fork. Keep wheel bearings adjusted, spokes tight, and wheel in proper alignment.

7. Rear wheel: Keep axle nuts or quick-release tight and wheel centered in chain stays. Keep spokes tight and wheel properly aligned.

8. Bottom bracket bearings: Crank assembly should turn freely. Keep bottom bracket cups and lock ring tight, and bearings clean and well lubricated.

9. Cranks and pedals: Replace bent crank or crank arm. Never attempt to straighten. Have an authorized dealer repair or replace pedals if bearings are tight or , or if threads are worn. See addional information provided with the bicycle.

10. Sprockets and chainwheels/chainrings: Replace if teeth are bent or damaged. Make sure chainwheels are firmly bolted to the crank arm. Check the chainring bolts for tightness and breakage. Replace as necessary.

11. Wheel alignment (wheel true): Wheels should rotate smoothly without excessive side to side movement (wobble), and remain centered in frame and fork.

12. Handlebars and stem: Adjust for comfort. The insertion mack on the stem should remain in the frame. Tighten securely.

13. Drive chain: Check for damage and stretch. Lubrication several times each season. Normal maintenance includes replacing the drive chain at least once a year. Have this done ONLY by an authorized dealer.

14. Derailleurs: Shift only while pedaling. Don’t allow the bicycle to fall on the derailleurs. Replace bent or otherwise damaged derailleurs.

15. Seat adjustment: Be sure that the insertion mark on the seat post remains in the frame tube. Securely tighten seat clamp bolts and the seat binder bolt.

16. Tires: Make sure the tires are inflated according to the pressure recommendation on the tire side wall. If two pressures are indicated, the lower pressure is for off-road use and the higher is the recommendation for on-road use. Use a foot or frame pump, not pressurized, unregulated pumps. Make sure the tire is seated properly on the rim. Check for tire damage before riding.

17. Frame: Inspect for cracks, dents or breaks. If damage is found, immediately replace; NEVER attempt to repair.

P.s. RETURN bicycle to your authorized dealer at least twice a year for safety check, or more frequently if needed.
