Stouffer & Dunkin Duel In Denton

The Texas Blown Fuel Association held their third point race of the season on Saturday, May 19th at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas where ten blown front engine dragsters and altereds came out to put on a show and battle down the eighth mile. Pleasant weather welcomed the series to North Texas and the T.B.F.A along with the Southwest Junior Fuel Association and a big line-up of other classes were ready to hit the strip.

Steve Matthews came into Denton with the points lead fresh off his win two weeks prior at San Antonio Raceway. In the opening round of qualifying, Matthews posted a nice 4.69 at 149 mph to secure a spot in the top half of the field. Fellow Oklahoma native Ted McCord wheeled the “Senior Moment” machine owned and tuned by Mike Brown to a “perfect” 4.65 at 150 mph to take the top spot in the opening session.

Two blown front engine dragsters were left standing, Dunkin and Stouffer, as the call went out to fire em’ up for the final round duel. After side by side burnouts the cars crept into the beams and Stouffer was off the line first by a bunch and lead the entire way to his first win of the season, posting a 4.67 at 139 mph over Dunkin’s 4.85 at 147 mph.

Matthews Masters San Antonio

The Texas Blown Fuel Association rolled into San Antonio Raceway for their second of eight events this season, participating in the “Texas Nitro Nostalgia” event hosted by the Texas Timing Association. An eight car field came to battle down the quarter mile in the heat of a blistering May afternoon in Texas. Included on a bill featuring the Outlaw Fuel Altereds, Southwest Junior Fuel Association, Nostalgia Funny Cars and Cacklefests, this event was a trip back in time for fans and racers alike.

Chris Stouffer and Steve Matthews lined up their blown front engine dragsters one last time to decide an event winner in San Antonio. Matthews was again deadly on the tree with a .010 reaction time and his strong 7.62 at 145 mph was enough to hold off Chris Stouffer’s nice 7.67 at 165 mph.
