Murt, King & Smith
Set to Debut at Chicago NHRA Nationals

Last weekend at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown Texas, 54-year-old Paducah, Ky., businessman Keith Murt completed his licensing requirements for an NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel dragster behind the wheel of Galveston, Texas’ Mitch King’s Top Fuel dragster tuned by Paul Smith.

Murt, cousin of Bob Mungle of the old Sammy & Bob Radio Show, has an extensive racing background in Competition Eliminator bracket racing. He owned and raced his own team for four years in the ARCA stock car series and even had the opportunity to race in two Busch (now Nationwide) series races. Murt completed Frank Hawley’s alcohol FC school in the late nineties.

Murt completed 12 runs from Friday to early Monday morning with a quickest quarter mile ET of 4.83 seconds and top speed of 317 mph. Paul Smith had the car running very consistently all weekend and the team did not hurt one piece.

“We are planning on Chicago (Joliet) for our first race,” Murt said. The team also has hopes of competing at Brainerd and Indy for the U.S. Nationals!
