Bowman Takes Inaugural CSS
Event Win at MoKan Dragway!

(Mark Bowman)

The Central State Superchargers made history over the Memorial Day Weekend with their inaugural event, help May 28th and 29th at Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri. A solid field of ten blown machines showed up to strut their stuff, including seven blown altereds and three blown front engine dragsters. Considering the disasterous tornado in Joplin, Missouri just days before the event, it was great to see full stands and a full CSS field to entertain them. Saturday night, under the lights, the teams put on a solid show with two sessions of qualifying.

(Anthony Whitfield)

Anthony Whitfield entered this event with confidence after career best numbers in testing, but a burnt piston ended his Memorial Weekend drag racing plans earlier than expected, along with Tom Butherus, who was sidelined after qualifying with transmission issues. Eight cars made the call for first round in what might have been the first and only 330' foot fuel altered race in history.

(Tom Butherus)

A local pro modified racer had a major accident which took out the right side gaurdrail at the 1/8th mile marker, obviously making the track surface unsafe to compete at full length, so the track management and CSS representatives elected to hold a 330' foot event on Sunday to complete the event in a safe manor and still put on a show for the fans. It was a 330' shootout, with the two quickest winners advancing to the final.

(Howard Knowles)

Bill Seals rolled out in the "Sudden Debt" blown altered along side Howard Knowles in the familiar "Cheaper Than Therapy" machine. Knowles looking for a solid outing at his home track and with a 2.76 elapsed time to the 330' mark, took the win over Seals' 2.94.

Craig Donnelly blazed the hides in the "Booze Brothers" blown altered along side the front engine machine of Brent Laney. Donnelly got the jump at the starting line and never looked back, clicking off a winning 2.85 over Laney's 3.02.

Johh Umlauf wheeled out the blue "Umlauf Racing" blown fed along side fellow slingshot wheelman Dave Damron. Damron went -.016 red at the tree and laid down a 3.20 with the best seat in the house to watch Umlauf take the round win with a solid 2.96 elased time.

(Dave Damron)

In the final pair of the opening round, 2010 WFAN Champion Aaron Leyda and team "Hemi Hunter" squared off with Oklahoma based Mark Bowman and the "Blown Income" altered. The two cars were side by side through the 330' and lit the boards with double 2.78 elapsed times with Bowman taking the win as Leyda was disqualified with a redlight. Bowman took his 2.78 elapsed time, the second quickest, to the final round where he would face the quickest first round winner, Howard Knowles.

In an all blown altered final, the Central State Superchargers Series was about to crown it's first event winner and complete their inaugural event as a series. It had been a very unique outing, but none the less there were two left and it was time to fire them up and crown a champ as Knowles and Bowman rolled through the waterbox.

The cars crept into the beams and launched hard at the drop of the ambers. Knowles immediately got out of shape and headed for the wall, wisely lifting and could do nothing but watch as Mark Bowman and the "Blown Income" team blasted to a 2.78 winning pass to become to first event winner in the Central State Superchargers Series! Congratulations to team "Blown Income" and to Howard and Melody Knowles on their solid showing.
