Playa Hermosa Offers: Good Food and A Swinging Good Time
Hemingway wrote the classic, "The Sun Also Rises," with Spain’s romantic gold coast as its backdrop. In keeping with this same setting, The Monkey Bar & Restaurant brings the flavor of Spain to you at one of Guanacaste’s gold coast beaches, Playa Hermosa. Accompanying a typical sunny Guanacaste afternoon or an evening sunset (the usual incredible ones), the ambiance here is complemented with friendly and attentive staff (Tish, Chris & Carlita). If the night is still young, more fun awaits! Amble down the main road in Playa Hermosa and, between the two entrances on your right, you will find The Monkey Bar. Venture just past the long driveway where an enormous Matapalo tree beckons you to an oversized "tiki hut" style bar and restaurant offering cold beers, great menu items and televised sporting events via satellite.Constructed of teakwood and palm, The Monkey Bar offers USA basketball games (we watched the SPURS in the playoffs). The best seats in the house are anywhere around the large wraparound bar where you can view the large wall mounted television from any angle.Says owner Chris Celicio, "we offer an atmosphere where you don’t have to compete with loud music in order to carry on a conversation. It fits in with the more relaxed mood Playa Hermosa offers versus the more "disco intensive" beach areas. Not that music is totally out of the question. The Monkey Bar sets the stage several times a month for live concerts with local bands providing the entertainment.

Take me to the last pictures of the trip---
