Merry Christmas Everyone

Christmas Letter for our online friends.  Photos are links in the letter……..

December 2002

Dear Friends and Family,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!  We hope all is well with you and your loved ones. What a busy year this has been!!

In March, we enjoyed spring break by taking a weeklong ski trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  The weather and the snow were perfect.  Unfortunately, Barbara injured her back on the first day and could not ski the rest of the week.  She was forced to spend the week having massages and manicures, and reading books in Starbucks.  Dave and the boys, however, had a great time skiing. It was a good thing Barbara didn’t try to keep up with them because they spent most of the week skiing double black diamonds.

When we returned from spring break, Barbara signed up to run for the school board.  She worked day and night on her campaign.  She was very fortunate to win and she loves her new responsibilities.  During this time, Dave’s parents came to celebrate Dave’s birthday.  We had a lovely visit with them.

During the last month of school, both boys started spring football training. This kept them busy and out of trouble.  Before we knew it, the boys were taking finals and another school year was finished.   As soon as school was over, the whole family went to Brady, Texas to participate in our church’s youth summer work camp. This was a wonderful week -lots of hard work, but also lots of fellowship and love.  We definitely plan to participate again next summer.

Daniel decided he needed a summer job and was very fortunate to work for Fretz Construction Company.  Not only did he learn a lot and have a fabulous summer building things, he had a great time.  Chris went to Troop 599 Boy Scout camp and Camp Ozark in Mount Ida, Arkansas.   At Troop 599, Chris would climb up very tall trees at night and put wooden thunderbirds (the Troop mascot is the thunderbird) very high so no one would be able to remove them. When he returned home he slept for two days.  He definitely plans to go back this summer.   Chris also went to Camp Ozark where he participated in all sorts of adventures.

We ended the summer by flying to Worthington to celebrate Marj and Roger’s (Dave’s parents) 50th wedding anniversary.  The actual date was in September, but we had to have the celebration early because of all the grandchildren’s school activities. They had many friends attend and we think they really enjoyed their big day.

Football practice started when we returned from Worthington.  Daniel played varsity and Chris was on the sophomore team.  Both boys had a great season, and it was heartbreaking to know that Daniel’s final season, as a senior, was finished. However he received two prestigious awards at the football banquet, Scholastic Achievement and Most Improved Player. Daniel also received his Eagle Rank in Scouts.  We are extremely proud of him for this outstanding accomplishment.  Chris is working on his Eagle project and will finish in early 2003.

We really can’t believe that the holiday season is here again, but it is.  We hope that you and your friends have a wonderful, happy, healthy and safe holiday.

Love, Barbara, Dave, Daniel, and Chris
