Beep's Page

I had several birds over the years. In 1991, I bought a handfed Timneh Grey. I named him Timothy. After a while, he became Beep. I finished handfeeding him. I had him until a month ago. He was my baby, but since we have to go to Germany, I found him a good home. I didn't want him to go through all the trouble with quarantine and air travel. Beep is a very quiet and independent bird. I can only recommend this species to anyone who needs a "quieter" bird. The best gift he gave me, though, was that for all the time that I had him, he didn't say more than a few words. He imitated a lot of sounds and noises, but talking wasn't his strong side. And that fas fine with me. The last day I spent with him, I was sitting on my couch in the living room and he was on the patio. I started talking to him, and very quietly he talked back. It was great. Now, if I had read this somewhere, I would have thought that someone is telling me a nice story, but this is true. We talked back and forth for over an hour. I didn't know at the time that this would be my last day with him. I still miss him, and I guess I always will, but knowing that he has a good home now, makes it a little easier. (05/98)
