NEWS

  • 1/10/01 - The Baker percussion section was represtented by 8th graders, Susan Turpin, John Michael Maupin, and Ernie Evertt at this years all-city tryouts. It was an honor to have all three percussionist make the Corpus Christi All-City Band. Susan Turpin was chosen 1st chair, John Michael 6th chair, and Ernie Everett 7th chair. Congratulations to all three!!

  • 1/13/01 - Once again Baker percussion did a wonderful job at the Region Tryouts. Susan Turpin made 3rd chair out of the whole region and placed in the 1st band. John Michael Maupin and Ernie Evertt also did a wonderful job!

  • 2/17/01 - Baker Percussion competed today at the first annual Percussion One Festival at Del Mar College. The ensemble performing "Whole Tone Fantasy" recieved a first division. Michael Schaffer and Ernie Everett also recieved excellent comments on marimba pieces they performed today.

  • Plans are in the making for Baker Middle School's first percussion recital. The date may be the first Thursday in May. Keep back for more information in the coming weeks.

  • 3/03/01 - Congrats to all Concert Band percussionists! Every member recieved a 1st Division today at Solo & Ensemble Contest. The Percussion Ensemble also recieved a 1st Division as well! This is truely a great accomplishment for Baker. Keep up the good work! 11 1st Division Medals were brought home...

  • You can see percussionists Susan Turpin, Amanda Rodriguez, John Michael Maupin, Michael Shaffer, and Ernie Everett take part in Baker Middle School's Athena Program present "That Sixties Show" March 8th and 9th at 7:00.

  • Please makes plans to attend Mr. Bissell's Percussion Recital at Del Mar on March 12, 2001 at 7:30.

  • 4/6/01 - Baker competed today in Flour Bluff for UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest. They recieved a 1st Division on stage as well as a 1st Division in the sightreading room. Congrats!

  • 4/23/01 - Mr. Wheeler & Mr. Luna were recognized today at the Corpus Christi school board meeting for their many achievments this past school year, as well as another sweepstakes award for Baker.

  • 4/28/01 - The Baker Band had a great time today at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels. Thank you to all who have made this year a success so far!!

  • 5/16/01 - Congrats to Amanda Rodriguez for being recognized at the Baker Athletic banquet for basketball and Cross Country, and also receiving the MVP award for cross country. John Michael Maupin was recognized for tennis and also received the MVP award for 8th grade guys tennis.

  • 5/17/01 - The Spring Concert went very well and the percussion ensemble did another outstanding job! Thank you all for the time you have put in this year with me! I could have not asked for seven better percussionists to start off my first year at Baker. Thank you to the Baker Band Boosters for everything you have done this year. Another thank you goes out to Mr. Wheeler for all you have done for me. I will miss you all greatly!

  • 5/24/01 - NEWS FLASH!! I just found out from Mr. Bissell over at Del Mar that Percussion One will be hosting the first ever PercussionONE Marching Camp on June 21 & 22. Cost is only $40 for both days!! Five staff members from P1 including Lamar Burkhalter will be down for the event. 9am - 4pm both days with a final concert on the last day at 3pm for the parents. More info will be posted as I get it. Stay turned.
