(4/25) C-C & Sons Racing traveled to Motor Sport Ranch in Granbury, Texas last weekend, April 20-22. The weather was cool and rain was on predicted in the forecast and it did come, but thankfully it only cancelled some of the saturday morning practice and the races did finish on time that night. But before that on Friday C-C & Sons went to practice. For yamaha driver Blake Clevenger practice was a disaster after having carburation problems for almost all of it. For 80cc pilot Mark Clevenger it was a success. He was able to fine tune is sit-up and make some of fastest laps. When morning came all changed for Mark. Ignition and fuel problems started and plagueded him for the rest of the weekend. for Blake things were much better than on Friday but he struggled to fine tune his clucth and pipe combination. As the Yamaha Limited Light race started Blake Clevenger was able to break away from the rest of ther field with expert Tony McGee. They had a hard fought battle throught the last inch in what truely defines photo finish. Blake passed Tony as the entered into the last jag on the final straight away, but Tony was able to pull up next to him on the streach out of it and edge him out but .021 to win. "That was awsome. When we got off the track we did know who one. Everyone was saying that it looked like i did, but know one was for sure. When we got the results it wasn't that much of a disappointment becuase we are out here to have fun, and that is what that race was." said Blake Clevenger after the race. On Sunday Blake had a hard fought battle with Randy Horra and was edged out by .09 in the Yamha heavy class, and in Piston Port Blake and Dalles Patterson broke away from the rest of the feild but after a few laps Blake lost the draft and ended up with another 2nd place finsh. Mark's weeekend was not as bright as Blake's was. "My Brava was glued all weekend, but we struggled with engine problems all weekend. It was every frusterating becuase everytime we got on the straight away they would blow by me but i was fast in the turns because we we hooked up so well." stated Mark after the weekend was over.
(3/20) C-C & Sons Racing tarveled to Oak Hill Raceway in Henderson, Texas last weekend, March 16-18. The weather was cold and rain was on predicted but thankfully it didn't fall until the trip home on Sunday. On Saturday Mark Clevenger of C-C & Sons racing piloted his Honda powered Margay Brava 1 to victory in the 80 cc Sr. class. On the first lap of the Yamaha Limited Light race Blake Clevenger of C-C & Sons Racing locked up the brakes after seeing a spin in front of him. After this set back Blake was able to scrap his was up to second place where he finished. "I was greatly disappointed in myself after the race. My Margay Brava fast and i had a good chance to win, but i blew it on the first lap. I am lucky i was able to salvage a second out of it." said Blake. On Sunday Blake stuggled again after failing to put on new tires. This aided to Blake's crash on the exit of the lower carousel. "The kart pushed bad because I had no front tires. I used them up on Saturday tring to make up for my spin. I wish we could have done better, but next race we will be back and ready for action. " said Blake after the race on Sunday.
(2/22) Blake Clevenger piloted his 1999 Margay Syncro Blade powered by a Woltjer/C-C & Sons Yamaha to victory in all three heats last Sunday at HCKC. After qualifing on the front row Blake lead the Yamaha Jr. Sportsman class into the first turn and never looked back. Blake then went on to start in the back in the second heat, but was able to muscle his margay to the front in just a few laps. In the third heat Blake started on the pole and proceeded to make a statement in his last Jr. race by continuing to add to his lead every lap. After the race Blake stated, "This kart is by far the best Jr. kart out there, but it also has the versitility of making a good Sr. kart. I have been very fortunate to have a kart that is so easy to set up and a crew cheif/Dad that keeps it fast. It makes it easy." (2/21)Today it was announced that he is going to move up to the Sr. division in 2001. I have left my mark in the Jr. division and i plan to take my racing efforts to the next level. I know that there is going to be a learning curve but I hope that it won't be too steep," says Blake Clevenger. He will be driving the #48 Margay Brava 1 powered by a Woljer/C-C & Sons Yamaha in Yamaha Limited Light and Heavy.
(2/19)C-C & Sons Racing prepares to unleash something new at the first event on the SWRA circut, Oak Hill Raceway. Drivers Blake and Mark Clevenger have yet to release what classes they will enter but, but they advise to beware. Hopefully in the next few days that information will come out. While the team ran well last year, they finished the season slightly disappointed. The Clevenger boys expressed that they plan to make a statement this year with their Woltjer/C-C & Sons powered Margays. "I am ready to take on anything that comes in the way of the checked. Although last year we did well, this year it going to be better." says Blake Clevenger.
(7/10)After making a significant impact and running out front all week long, C-C & Sons Racing drivers, Blake and Mark Clevenger, grabbed a 2nds and 3rd trophies at this year's IKF RR Grand National. While the team ran excellent all week, they return home slightly disappointed. After setting fast time in both Yamaha LTD and Yamaha Jr. Situp, off-track difficulties prevented the team from coming out on top in the final standings. "I just want to thank all my sponsors Texas Karts, Margay Racing, and Woltjer Racing Engines. With their support we definately made a statement. Its just a shame we couldn't have the trophy to stand for it. But don't worry, the we aren't done. There is still more to come. We will be back faster than ever. You can count on that. I just hope the competition will be ready." says Mark in light of his Grand National experience.
(5/24) Blake Clevenger make his shifter kart debut at the new Motorsport Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas. Running in the Formula 80cc Jr. class, Blake managed a third place finish in just behind C.R Crews and Nash Cogburn. With an overwhelming dominance the Aggie drivers claimed first in the Autocross and enduro along with a 9th place finish in the acceleration event just merely missing a clean sweep on the dynamic events. The Aggie team finished off the week with a 12th place finish in design and 7th place in cost to clinch the overall Formula SAE championship and the coveted Memorial Cup.
(4/27)That's right, here comes Texas! The C-C & Sons Racing crew along with fellow Texan Malcolm Stratemann made the trek to Willow Springs Raceway April 20-23 for the SCK/IKF Region 7 Grand National warm up. Battling the grueling "Mojave winds," proved to be a interesting chore as the team searched for a combination for this summers upcoming IKF Grand National. Blake Clevenger showed the west what Texas is made of as he cruised to victory in both the Yamaha Jr Situp and Enduro classes. Malcolm came from the off-pole to win the second heat and the overall event in the Formula 80 class and Mark duked it out in the Yamaha LTD classes. Taking an eventual event win in Yamaha LTD heavy, Mark first scrounged for second in Yamaha LTD light amongst IKF experts Mike Manning, Rich Van Fossen, and race winner David Koomjan. "This place is 'flat out!' It's a bit different than I expected. We are by all means pleased with our performance, but we still have alot of ground to cover by June." History tells the C-C & Sons Racing team will have its homework complete prior to the Grand Nationals. Without a doubt expect to see the Clevenger Bravas in the lead pack this summer.
(3/30) Watch out Texas, Yamaha road race expert Mark Clevenger will be behind the wheel of an all new Formula 80cc Shifter in the near future. The C-C & Sons Racing team is currently working on the Honda CR80 motor package and Margay Brava chassis combination. The twenty year old college student is ready to go to school behind the wheel. "The shifter class is going to open a whole series of new challenges. We definately have a steep learning curve in our near future. But I have faith in my crew chief and equiptment. The Margay chassis line has yet to let us down. I am confident by season's end we will be up front.", quotes Clevenger on his new ride.
