Chaengwattana Community Church- (Our History):

Nonthaburi, Thailand

(a suburb of Bangkok)

Chaengwattana Community Church (CCC) held its first official meeting as the Evangelical Church of Chaengwattana on Easter Sunday, April, 1992. The church began as a daughter church of the Evangelical Church of Bangkok (ECB) located in the heart of Bangkok. At that time, there were three well known and well attended Protestant churches in the Bangkok area, all located in the central business section of the city. About this same time, the International School of Bangkok (ISB) began the process of finalizing a new campus and relocating to the north side of the city in the province of Nonthaburi.

A group of individuals associated with the Evangelical Church of Bangkok began to consider starting a new church to minister to this "new" community which was about 25 kilometers or 45 minutes away from the home church at ECB. As the number of believers living on the north side of the city increased, there was an increasing need for a more geographically accessible church for those who were unable to travel into the heart of the city for various reasons. Hence, the Evangelical Church of Chaengwattana (ECC) was born. Since ECC was a daughter church of ECB, which was affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the new church shared this affiliation in the early years.

The first pastor of the church, David Seckinger, was married to the daughter of the man credited with starting the Evangelical Church of Bangkok, some 23 years earlier. So, it was fitting that the first pastor of this new "daughter" church be married to the daughter of the founder of one of the oldest Protestant churches in Bangkok.

The church first met in Nichada Thani at the ISB school campus, but later moved to a hotel that provided a conference room which served as the congregation's meeting room for some time. The church later decided to move to facilities near the center of the population to which the church was ministering. Therefore, a move was made to the area known as Nichada Thani, not far from a main thoroughfare known as Chaengwattana Road. The name of the church was changed at that time to the Chaengwattana Community Church and, at the same time, the formal affiliation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance ended.

Effective July 1998, CCC became an independent organization which is recognized by the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand .
