I don't even remember my father, he left when I was only 3Ever since I can remember, it's always been mom and me
She worked very hard to make ends meet
She always made sure we had food to eat
Every night she'd pray when she put me to bed
She always thanked God for the roof over our heads
I remember always wanting to help out too
But there wasn't a whole lot that I could do
The years went by and as I got older
Now I can help too! thats just what I told her
She always made sure I did good in school
And when I was bad she'd sit me on a stool
As she paddled me she'd say "This is for your own good!"
I knew it was comin when she said "Get the wood!"
Now I'm grown up and my mom's got a man
Who loves her and treats her the best that he can
Now I work very hard to make ends meet
And she is still there to help when I have nothing to eat
I still say my prayers when I goto bed
But there's only one thought that goes through my head
One day it will be time to take care of my mother till the end of her days
And I'll be the one to see that she 'mends' her ways.
