Genealogy Services

I offer a full range of genealogical research services --- from helping you to jump that brick wall on one particular ancestor, to helping you fill out the branches on your entire family tree.

Important Note Before you hire any genealogist, remember to provide them with as much information as possible. Don't wind up paying anyone, including me, to find information you already have. Be sure you check to see if there are any extra costs involved for postage, copying fees, printing, etc. Beware of any genealogist who guarantees success --- that is impossible. Also beware of people who charge a "flat fee" for general research. The fact is no one can predetermine the amount of time it will take to do general family tree research --- and, unless you asking someone to visit a local court house to copy something or abstract information that you already know exists, time is what you are paying for.

Initial fee is $50 which includes initial discussions vial email or telephone and two hours of research time. After that, the fee is $15 an hour. This includes a full written report of repositories and/or other genealogical data sources researched and the findings. My clients pay for all research hours in advance so there are no surprises --- you'll know all hourly charges up front since you are the one in control of the service fees. The time is in one-hour increments. I recommend no more than 30 hours at one time, but can be as few as two or up to 40.

The client pays for the cost of copies for birth, marriage or death certificates, census images, etc. Those charges are set by the vital records repository that holds the items and is out of my control. In those cases I notify you in advance of the cost of these items and, if you would rather obtain them directly, I provide you with the information needed for you to do so.

Travel expenses, if travel is needed, are extra. However, these costs are always determined in advance and you have full control over whether or not I travel to a particular area to obtain some type of information, photograph gravesites, etc.

I accept checks, money orders, and credit cards (through PayPal only) for all services. If you pay by check, research does not begin until your check clears the bank. Depending on the postal service this could take 10 days to two weeks. I recommend PayPal's secure server for faster service.
